£25m pricetag should not put Everton or West Ham off buying Wilson

Bournemouth will demand £25m for striker Callum Wilson, who has eight goals in all competitions this season, according to the Sun.

Among the rumoured suitors are Everton and West Ham, but they should have no hesitation about paying that price for the Englishman.

What’s the story, then?

The report claims that Cherries boss Eddie Howe does not want to lose the former Coventry City striker, who is valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, and that is why he has slapped huge a high price tag on him.

Wilson has had injury problems in the past but has proven himself to be a goalscorer in the top flight with the pace and movement to trouble elite defences.

Everton and West Ham have reportedly been tracking the frontman and it remains to be seen whether they will match Bournemouth’s demands.

They need goals, Wilson scores goals

The Toffees invested heavily in new talent during both the summer and January transfer window but there are only two men among the new arrivals you could reasonably say score enough goals; Cenk Tosun and Wayne Rooney.

Rooney’s powers are fading all the time and has he drops deeper and deeper into midfield, his goalscoring influence will recede. Tosun has hit a purple patch and came highly rated but Wilson shouldn’t need as much time to adapt to English football.

As for West Ham, they are happy to rely on Andy Carroll being fit, even though his injury record is even worse than Wilson.

Long term, to get to where they need to be, players with the pace and trickery of Wilson – who would form a lightening fast alliance with fellow poacher Chicharito in East London – are what West Ham need.

That is why Howe’s price demand shouldn’t put either side off; and £25m for a striker who can score goals in the top flight with little period for adjustment is a good deal in the current market.

Frank Fabra would be an exciting addition to Everton squad

As reported by The Sun, Everton have been joined by Italian sides Napoli and Fiorentina in the race to sign Boca Juniors defender Frank Fabra this summer.

What’s the story?

After another disappointing season at Goodison Park, fans are already dreaming of potential signings when the summer transfer window opens that can turn them into a team capable of going up against the top six sides in the division.

One player that could arrive on Merseyside is left-back Frank Fabra.

The Sun say Everton are interested in signing the Colombian international, but face competition from the likes of Napoli and Fiorentina for his signature.

Rated at around £4m by Transfermarkt, can the Toffees convince him his future lies in the Premier League?

Who is he?

Fabra has made over 50 appearances for Argentinian icons Boca Juniors since joining in 2016, scoring five goals and assisting eight times from left-back in that time.

With 17 caps for Colombia too, he’s on his way to the World Cup this summer where his value could increase if he has an impressive tournament.

Signing players from South America is always exciting and the fact he is a left-back who likes to dribble, has pace and loves to get forward would add extra intrigue if he ends up at Goodison Park.

West Ham fans hate Gomes links

West Ham have suffered through their fair share of absurd transfer rumours, and Hammers’ fans have been reacting to reports that Andre Gomes is a summer target.Gomes moved to Barcelona from Valencia in 2016, but despite the huge fee and his illustrious reputation the Portuguese midfielder has failed to make any impact in Catalonia. It’s not surprising to see Gomes linked with moves away from the Camp Nou, but the Mirror report claiming the Hammers will compete with Tottenham to sign the 24 year-old has taken everyone by surprise.[ad_pod ]West Ham have had their own troubles in midfield this season. Having Marko Arnautovic, Manuel Lanzini and Joao Mario gives them plenty of threat going forward, but they’re still missing a technically gifted superstar to string everything together in midfield.Gomes hasn’t scored or assisted in 15 La Liga appearances this season, but does boast an 89.6 per cent pass success rate.Despite his incredible form for Valencia before the big move to Barcelona, West Ham fans seem to be in complete agreement that they don’t want the Portuguese man, and some of the best Twitter reactions can be found below…

Player Ratings: Who was Man United’s MOTM vs Tottenham?

Manchester United took a huge step closer towards ending the season with silverware on Saturday, clinching a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in their FA Cup semi-final meeting at Wembley.

It was the Lilywhites who started on the front foot, with Dele Alli breaking the deadlock after just eleven minutes upon connecting with a Christian Eriksen cross.

But the Red Devils grew into the game the longer it went on and hit back midway through the first half, when Paul Pogba tackled Mousa Dembele and picked out Alexis Sanchez with a perfectly weighted cross.

United fans will be delighted to see Jose Mourinho’s star duo, who have suffered plenty of criticism this season, combine so effectively in such an important game.

But 66-cap Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku had a big impact as well, continuously causing problems for Tottenham’s defence and inadvertently assisting the man who got the winner in Ander Herrera, another impressive performer for United at Wembley.

So, United fans, who was your Man of the Match on Saturday? Who impressed and who disappointed? Let us know by voting below and giving each player involved a performance rating out of ten…

How Tottenham must line up when they host Watford on Monday

Tottenham Hotspur will look to recover from their FA Cup disappointment and strengthen their grip on their top-four spot in the Premier League when they host Watford at Wembley on Monday night.

Spurs knew they had the opportunity to end a decade drought without a trophy when they faced Manchester United in the semi-final of the famous competition last weekend, but despite Dele Alli giving them an early lead they were eventually beaten 2-1 by Jose Mourinho’s men.

Attention now turns back to the top flight and the north London outfit will be determined to ensure that they now qualify for the Champions League next season, in order for them to give themselves a chance of enjoying more famous European nights at their new stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino will know how important it is that they don’t let their advantage over fifth-placed Chelsea slip in the remaining four fixtures, and he will certainly fancy his side’s chances of overturning the Hornets.

Javi Gracia’s men are in mid-table despite losing 17 of their 35 matches and conceding 60 goals in the process, and they have lost four successive Premier League matches on the road without finding the net.

Pochettino made six changes to the XI that drew 1-1 with Brighton and Hove Albion previously for the clash against the Red Devils, and he may well be considering making some more alterations in order to keep things fresh.

Here is how Tottenham must line up when they host Watford, ahead of Hugo Lloris in goal…

Pochettino decided to stay loyal to Michel Vorm for the FA Cup semi-final tie after he had played in all of the previous rounds, and he may have considered doing it anyway with Lloris struggling for form in the Premier League in recent weeks.

However, the France international must return between the sticks against Watford, with the back four otherwise staying the same.

Ben Davies didn’t have his best game against the Red Devils, but he should continue at left-back given Danny Rose is injured and there are few other options available.

Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele have been Pochettino’s first-choice pairing in the Premier League and Champions League over the course of the last few months, and while the former impressed against Man United last weekend, the latter was poor on the day – as shown by his awful statistics from the game.

The Argentine boss should consider resting the Belgium international for this one as perhaps the number of games the team has played has caught up with him, and Victor Wanyama should come into the starting XI having replaced him in the 78th minute at Wembley last weekend.

Pochettino went with his first-choice front four of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane against Jose Mourinho’s side, but while Alli got himself on the score-sheet and made a big impact in the first half, the same couldn’t really be said of his attacking teammates.

Eriksen and Kane didn’t look quite right and Son is struggling to replicate the prolific form he was in just a few weeks ago.

As with Dembele, Pochettino should look to take the South Korean out of the spotlight for the visit of Watford, and give Erik Lamela another opportunity to impress alongside Alli, Eriksen and Kane in attack.

Revealed: 52% of Liverpool fans want Ayew in to improve their backup options

Liverpool are in the Champions League final and may well win it if they take the chances that Real Madrid will inevitably present but their options off the bench are simply not good enough.

It showed again at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea; Jurgen Klopp does have a small squad and an injury crisis to contend with but he didn’t have the replacements on hand to alter the course of a game that ended up as a 1-0 defeat against last season’s champions.

Buying backups is a tough game to play but the alternative is that the likes of Ben Woodburn have to deputise for Mo Salah and co; which is a far from ideal scenario that places youngsters under extreme pressure at such an early stage of their career.

That’s why we asked you whether Swansea City’s busy forward Jordan Ayew – who could still of course be relegated this season – would be a good fit.

Rangers fans aren’t convinced by John McGinn transfer links

As reported by The Daily Record, Rangers are interested in signing Hibernian midfielder John McGinn during this summer’s transfer.

The paper say that incoming manager Steven Gerrard sent a scout to watch the player in action during the recent Edinburgh derby and is weighing up making a move for him.

The report states that Hibs manager Neil Lennon is hoping to receive as much as £5m for his signature.

Would he be a good signing for Rangers? Perhaps. He has been one of Hibs’ better players this season and has produced excellent performances against the likes of Celtic and the Light Blues themselves.

A Scotland international, he also has long-term potential at the age of 24.

Rangers fans though are not convinced, either with his ability or with how true this transfer report is.

Many believe there is no chance he will be making the move to the blue half of Glasgow and took to Twitter to share their thoughts…

Klopp pledges to bring in Liverpool reinforcements to absorb Coutinho departure

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has promised to bring in ‘a couple of players’ in the summer transfer window, according to the Mirror.

In the same interview, Klopp bemoans the loss of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona and it is clear that the German manager is keen to make reinforcements to account for the January loss of the Brazilian.

What’s the story, then?

The report states that Klopp made a clear statement that Liverpool ‘will bring in a couple more players, that will happen’ ahead of the summer transfer window.

He also went on to say that the imminent arrival of Naby Keita will not hold back the Reds from making those signings, which are necessitated by the extended absence of Adam Lallana through injury this term and the sale of Coutinho.

He also clarified that the new arrivals do not mean that players will be departing Anfield, quelling any immediate fears about needing another Coutinho-style sale to facilitate spending.

Liverpool need variety and depth

There can be absolutely no doubt that Liverpool have assembled an attack to worry any team in Europe, as evidenced by their rampage into the final of the Champions League.

However, without the subtlety of Coutinho – who could also step into the front three to add guile when the gung-ho approach isn’t working – Klopp’s men only know how to attack in one way.

More depth to give the starters a rest and more options to either change a game from the bench or set up in a slightly different way from the off is sorely needed if the Reds are to sustain an assault on more than one front next season.

Silva would be out of his mind to reject Everton for Udinese

Udinese have emerged as contenders for Marco Silva’s signature, which could potentially pour doubt over Everton’s chances of landing him as new manager, according to Gazzetto dello Sport.

What’s the word?

This time last year, Everton fans were getting excited by the prospect of the club’s summer spending activity under then-manager Ronald Koeman.

Fast-Forward 12 months and now the club are on the hunt for their second boss since Koeman’s sacking in October.

Sam Allardyce was dismissed at the end of the season, and it is safe to say that not many were shocked by the news.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are closing in on the appointment of former Hull City and Watford manager Silva, but Gazzetta dello Sport report that he is also on the shortlist for Udinese.

It is believed that the Portuguese coach’s former club Watford will demand compensation from Everton if they appoint Silva after accusing the Toffees of illegally approaching the manager last year.

[ad_pod ]

What should Silva do?

It does not appear that a move to Everton would be smooth sailing, despite the fact that the 40-year-old is a free agent.

However, it would be a very odd decision on his part to take over at Udinese, who have won just four trophies during their existence.

The main reason why it would be a baffling move is down to the fact that the club are owned Giampaolo Pozzo, who is also the owner of Watford.

Everton did not have the season that they wanted, but they avoided relegation relatively comfortably and they can begin the 2018-19 campaign with a fresh slate.

Whether Silva will be the man in the dugout remains to be seen.

West Ham consider Rafinha move

According to Sport, West Ham United are considering a move for Barcelona attacker Rafinha in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

Rafinha has been with Barcelona since 2006, and after progressing through the youth system, has gone on to make 79 appearances for the Spanish giants in all competitions.

The midfielder spent the 2013-14 campaign with Celta Vigo before returning to Barcelona, and went on to make 36 appearances the following season.

A long-term knee injury saw Rafinha miss the first half of last season, but he returned to action in January, and moved on loan to Inter Milan for the rest of the campaign.

According to Sport, Inter are shying away from a permanent move for the Brazilian, with the Italian outfit unprepared to pay £31m.

As a result, West Ham have reportedly joined the race, and it is understood that the Hammers have already met with Barcelona to discuss a potential move this summer.

Would Rafinha fit in at West Ham?

It would be some coup if West Ham managed to convince Rafinha, who has previously been linked with Everton, to make the move to the London Stadium in this summer’s transfer window.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”253217″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch The FM18 Two Minute Challenge Pellegrini at West Ham”]

He might be surplus to requirements at Barcelona, but this is a player who has scored 11 times in 79 appearances for one of the best club teams in world football.

Rafinha will not turn 26 until next February, meanwhile, and there is absolutely no question that he has the qualities to be a success in the Premier League.

The two-time Brazil international, who is valued at £25.2m by transfermarkt.co.uk, only managed two goals in 17 Serie A appearances for Inter in the second half of last season.

The midfielder is still working his way back to fitness following a long-term knee injury, however, and in full flow, he could turn out to be an absolute superstar at West Ham.
