– O grupo sempre esteve do meu lado.

Australia’s new captain is excited and nervous ahead the T20 internationals in India

Alyssa Healy has indicated Meg Lanning could make a return from her personal break as she takes the reins of Australia’s all-conquering women’s team for their upcoming T20 tour of India.Healy will lead the team for the five-match series starting on December 9 in what is effectively a lead-up to the T20 World Cup in February. Regular captain Lanning opted to take an indefinite break following Australia’s Commonwealth Games title win, while vice-captain Rachael Haynes announced her retirement from international and state cricket in September.Related

Meg Lanning takes indefinite break from cricket for personal reasons
Weighing up taking the role, having at times been reluctant, Healy consulted with confidants before breaking the news to Lanning.”She [Lanning] was really chuffed. I have been chatting to her, she is going really well and is looking forward to coming back at some point,” Healy told reporters on Tuesday. “That’s really pleasing for us as a team that hopefully, she will be back around the group.”I actually wasn’t sure if I was the right person to do it or if they were looking to the future. I consulted with a few people outside of the game who suggested I was and maybe it was the right time for me to take an opportunity like this. Once that sunk in it was more excitement and nerves than anything else.”Healy, who has experience captaining in state cricket and the WBBL, revealed business executive Christine McLaughlin played a key role in her decision.”She actually rang me the night before Flegs [national selector Shawn Flegler] did and asked me why I wasn’t putting my hand up for selection and why I wasn’t coming out and telling everyone I wanted to do it.”Because it hadn’t crossed my mind. But to speak to someone like that who has been so successful in a corporate sector….to have someone like that in my corner, it was like, why not? Let’s do it.”Alyssa Healy has experience captaining in state cricket and the WBBL•Getty Images
Looking towards the future, star allrounder Tahlia McGrath was named vice-captain to cap a stunning ascension after missing out on Australia’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2020.”We’ve got two new leaders in the side, so naturally I think you’re going to put your own mark on that,” Healy said. “T-Mac [McGrath] and I will have a chat and see what we want to do. I really just think it’s about keeping the same sort of values that have been created over the last few years and add a touch of our own flair.”If Meg comes back and decides that she wants to keep skippering then we’ll slot back into those roles and do what we have been doing. Naturally, we are going to do things a bit differently so it’ll look and feel a bit different.”Having needed to “blatantly” lie to those around her, knowing for some time she would take the captaincy before it became official, Healy and partner Mitchell Starc were re-evaluating their future plans.”He [Starc] laughs that I’ve changed my mind three or four times already. I just seemingly keep getting these opportunities that sort of reinvigorate me and my cricket,” Healy said. “I’ve been fortunate enough to get another one of these opportunities that will potentially push me to better myself as a cricketer and keep pushing me to be a part of this team. I’ve been lucky that these opportunities have come along, but I’ll continue to reassess.”Healy’s immediate attention turns to Asia Cup champions India in what looms as a “baptism of fire” as she juggles captaining, keeping and opening the batting.”It’s going to be absolutely chaotic, but I think the way that we’ve got a really great senior group around me to help in that regard on the field,” she said. “You’ve got the likes of JJ [Jess Jonassen] and Ellyse Perry who have been captaining WBBL – and Megan Schutt as well – to help on the field so I don’t have to keep doing as many shuttle runs. We’ve got a great group around me and I can’t wait to work with them.”
Chelsea only played Brighton six days ago, losing 2-1 at the Amex Stadium in the FA Cup, leaving the Blues out of both domestic cup competitions now.
Despite having 57% possession, Enzo Maresca’s side only took seven shots in the game, creating zero “big chances”.
On the other hand, Brighton managed to create two “big chances” with only 43% possession, only taking six shots at goal throughout.
But, Chelsea now have a good chance to put things right, facing Brighton at the Amex Stadium again on Friday, this time in the Premier League, with the chance to secure their top-four spot for another week.
The latest Chelsea team news
Maresca confirmed in his press conference that Chelsea will be without Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu, with the former now “out until the international break”. The muscular injury was confirmed to be worse than was first feared, with a scan showing he would be out for six to eight weeks.
Guiu is also going to be out “for a little while”, in the words of the manager, with a hamstring issue. This leaves Christopher Nkunku as one of Chelsea’s main striker options in the absence of the pair, but the Italian also stated they will find “other solutions”.
Chelsea'sNicolasJacksonreacts after sustaining an injury
On a more positive note, Maresca confirmed Chelsea captain, Reece James, is fit and available to face Brighton after being rested against them in the cup six days ago, as was the plan according to the Italian.
Roméo Lavia, Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana all remain out, but it was revealed Fofana has started to work with the group again and could be available as soon as the next few weeks, but Maresca will be careful not to rush anything.
Chalkboard
Football FanCast's Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.
Chelsea's Jackson, Guiu & Nkunku dilemma
Jackson and Guiu are the only two natural number nines Maresca has had at his disposal in the first-team, with the Senegal international scoring nine goals in 24 appearances this season, and the 18-year-old Spaniard netting six times in 13 appearances.
Marc Guiu
Their least natural fit in that position has proven to be Nkunku leading the line, which we saw against Brighton in the FA Cup to minimal effect.
Despite having a good goal-scoring record this season, scoring 13 goals in 31 appearances, Maresca has admitted himself the Frenchman isn’t a “proper” nine and is more of an attacking midfielder, who has different behaviours.

Stats taken from FBref
When comparing the underlying numbers of each forward this season, you can see how each one brings something slightly different to the table. Jackson provides an all-around profile, being able to progress play in the build-up, make runs in behind and also create for others.
Guiu, being a slightly more natural number nine build, is looking to do more of his work in the box, winning aerial duels (which doesn’t show up in the stats) and wanting to provide that finishing touch. With Nkunku being more of an attacking midfielder, wants to receive the ball deeper, get plenty of touches and be a big part of the game.
The Frenchman playing as the nine is still likely to be a solution for Maresca to use in these coming weeks, but it clearly isn’t the only one on his mind, and perhaps a slight tweak in positions between Nkunku and a certain other star could prove to be more fruitful.
Maresca's possible solution
Everyone already knows how good Cole Palmer is, Chelsea’s top scorer this season with 14 goals in 27 appearances. Earlier in the season, after scoring four goals against Brighton at Stamford Bridge, Theo Walcott praised the 22-year-old as a “gifted” talent, stating “he is going to be a Premier League legend”.
But, one option for Maresca could be to switch the positions of Palmer and Nkunku, with the Englishman playing as more of a “false nine” and the Frenchman being able to play off of him in tandem. This would the Englishman the freedom as a nine to drift around, picking up the ball and dragging central defenders with him everywhere he goes. This would open up spaces for others around him, one being Nkunku, but another being Noni Madueke, who would be a key ingredient to this recipe.
By setting the former Manchester City ace on the last line, his ability to drop into the half spaces, receive the ball slightly deeper and drag defenders with him, would allow Madueke to make runs inside from wide areas, attacking the space vacated between the central defenders which would allow Maresca to get more goal threat from his most direct winger this season.

When analysing Chelsea’s shot tallies over the past ten games, you can see the highest Premier League shot tallies (26 against Bournemouth and 22 against West Ham) both started with Madueke on the right, whereas two of the three lowest tallies (12 against Fulham and 7 against Brighton) both came with a wing pairing of Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho.
Bringing that extra shot volume into the team in the absence of Jackson and the ability to run in behind will be key, which is why the trio of Palmer, Nkunku and Madueke could be the key for Maresca in this tough stint of the season coming up.

O time mandante abriu o placar aos oito minutos do primeiro tempo.

“With new players, it’s different because when the opposition attacks them, it places a sharper kind of pressure on them”
Danyal Rasool20-Dec-2022
“”You need experience in Test cricket, and our experienced players were either unfit or not in form”•Getty Images
Inexperience. That was the word Babar Azam kept returning to. In the wake of Pakistan’s fourth successive home Test defeat, and a 3-0 home series defeat – both unprecedented.”There have been several debutants this series,” Babar said. “You need experience in Test cricket, and our experienced players were either unfit or not in form. Our team was young, with Azhar Ali the only experienced player. When you take a chance with youth, it takes time. You can’t change everything in a day or a week.Related

“I’ll try and back the new boys we have, give it a bit of time before we see where we stand. Saud [Shakeel], Agha [Salman], Abrar [Ahmed], [Mohammad] Wasim Jnr have come in, while Faheem [Ashraf] is in and out, and Shan [Masood] has just made a comeback. It’s a new team, so the greater chance you give them and the more you build this side, the team will improve. But you’d have to play them consistently.”Pakistan handed out six Test debuts – Haris Rauf, Mohammad Ali, Shakeel and Zahid Mahmood in the first Test, Abrar in the second, and Wasim in the last one – this series. And there was a significant gap in the experience between the conquering visitors and the vanquished hosts. For Pakistan, the players who took part this series had played a combined 254 Test matches before it began; for England, that number was 531. Just James Anderson and Joe Root together have played more Test matches than the Pakistan side put together.”There have been difficult times this series,” Babar said. “With new players, it’s different because when the opposition attacks them, it places a sharper kind of pressure on them. It takes time to get used to that. We’ll try and look after our quicks better because there are back-to-back series and the [ODI] World Cup is coming up, so we’ll have to plan with a view to that.”Abrar Ahmed picked up 11 wickets in his debut Test•Matthew Lewis/Getty Images
There were moments – albeit fleeting – when Pakistan were in respectable, if not commanding, positions this series. In each of the first two Tests, Pakistan found themselves needing 85 runs or fewer to win with half their wickets intact. But, in a theme England exploited effectively all series, there were batting collapses, and the opportunities went up in smoke. It’s an extension of a problem that has beleaguered Pakistan all year. Just this series alone, Pakistan lost their last five wickets in their final innings for 9 and 38 runs in Rawalpindi and in Multan, respectively, and their last seven for 52 in Karachi.”It’s disappointing as a captain that we didn’t apply ourselves,” Babar said. “The way England played needs to be appreciated. When things were in our hands, there were soft dismissals, and we couldn’t win these matches. Our strength was our batting because our bowling was under-strength. We tried to dominate with our batting, and we played well in patches, but we couldn’t quite finish it off.”It was the same pitch for both teams. We can tell the curator we need a particular type of pitch. We dominated in Multan, when Abrar got 11 wickets. So there was an advantage, but we lacked in the batting. There were patches when we put England on the back foot but we kept losing wickets and that builds up pressure. It’s something we need to work on.”Injuries to three frontline Pakistan fast bowlers hampered them big time. Shaheen Afridi was ruled out before the start of the series, while Naseem Shah and Rauf played the first Test, only to be ruled out for the next two. The Pakistan management is understood to be less than convinced about Hasan Ali and Mohammad Abbas’ fitness for five-day cricket, which is why they were not considered despite Pakistan fielding an attack in which every other fast bowler made their debuts this series.Saud Shakeel gave a good account of his abilities in his debut Test series, ending with 346 runs in six innings•AFP/Getty Images
“We were unfortunate that our fast bowlers weren’t fit,” Babar said. “When new fast bowlers come in, it’s difficult, especially when England play the way they do because they don’t let Pakistan settle. You need the kind of bowlers who get you 20 wickets. If you don’t, you won’t win. There’s so much back-to-back cricket, you have to be ready all the time. Fitness becomes ultra-important, because if you aren’t perfectly fit you won’t be able to play all three [Tests]. These days you only get two or three days to switch formats and you have to be mentally ready too. A lot of things happened together at the same time.”Babar’s captaincy has come under increasing scrutiny this series, particularly around the management of his bowling resources during games. However, it hasn’t hindered his own form with the bat. Over the three Tests, he was the highest run-scorer for Pakistan, with 348; no Pakistan batter bettered either his average (58) or his strike rate of 68.91. He scored a hundred and three half-centuries, though in a batting line-up where just about everyone else struggles for form, Pakistan would have benefitted from a superior conversion rate. It illustrates, perhaps, how deeply Pakistan rely on their captain’s batting, and the weight of responsibility on the shoulders of a man who captains his side in all three formats.”I enjoy the pressure, it doesn’t affect my batting,” he said. “It’s an honour to captain Pakistan, and I give my best for myself and for my country. That’s my motive and aim. The team lost, and I’ll be the one to front up and take responsibility. It’s not about the way you play, it’s about results. If you don’t get results you’ll get criticised no matter what.”A defeat like this hurts. We had one or two matches under our control, but we lost them. If we’d won those, this would be a different scenario. As a professional, you’ll have to accept these things. But you have to credit England the way they have dominated, and the different way they have played their cricket. There were lots of positives, too, which we’ll try to continue. We’ll need to assess where we lacked, and do the best for the team.”
John Eustace’s dramatic managerial appointment was meant to swiftly turn around Derby County’s fortunes, but the ex-Blackburn Rovers boss’ arrival onto the scene hasn’t sparked a run of victories just yet.
Instead, the consistent losses that saw Paul Warne be relieved from his duties have continued on, with Eustace tasting back-to-back losses in the Rams hot-seat since taking on the reins.
Results really do need to pick up soon from the perspective of the relegation candidates, with a hope that Jerry Yates can get back to his best in-front of goal soon to try and guide his team out of their tricky predicament.
Yates' hot-and-cold form for Derby
Amazingly, despite only scoring two strikes across his last ten Championship outings, the ex-Blackpool striker remains Derby’s most potent goalscorer this season.
In total, Yates has helped himself to seven goals and three assists across 31 second-tier contests, with a need for the Doncaster-born attacker to stop fluffing his lines now to steer his team to some vital wins.
This acrobatic effort back in November was the pick of the bunch from Yates’ red-hot Rams form, but these sensational attacking displays have been nowhere to be seen as of late, with Eustace’s men firing blanks across his opening two games in charge.
Unfortunately, away from the 28-year-old, there is a severe lack of goalscoring heroes at the new boss’ disposal, with this ex-Rams star – who was once front and centre of Frank Lampard’s Premier League-aspiring side – even managing to outscore every Derby player this season bar Yates, despite long spells on the sidelines for his new team owing to injury.
The ex-Derby star outscoring every player bar Yates
Once upon a time, Derby were regularly challenging for promotion up to the top flight, away from their current task of staying put in the second tier.
Under Lampard during the 2018/19 season, the Rams very nearly rose up to the promised land, with Jack Marriott an exciting and daring attacker the Derby boss could rely on.
Unfortunately for Lampard and Co, a playoff final versus Aston Villa would prove to be a bridge too far, but Marriott would still round off that campaign with a strike at Wembley, bumping up his total during his debut season in Derbyshire to a promising 13 in all competitions.
After that season – similar to the football club in the years that followed – Marriott’s playing days would slightly unravel, with a meagre three strikes greeting him the campaign after, leading to him becoming somewhat of an EFL nomad when departing Pride Park for good in 2021 on a free transfer.
The “top class” ace – as he was once hailed by Lampard – even had to drop down to League Two temporarily with current employers Wrexham, but this has proven to be an inspired move by the injury-prone attacker.
Indeed, this season so far, Marriott has chipped in with five league goals from 16 games as his much-talked-about team gun for back-to-back promotions all the way up to Derby’s level.

Amazingly, despite being missing for 18 clashes this season due to a broken fibula, Marriott’s efforts would put him in the silver medal position in Derby’s top goalscorers, with Kayden Jackson enduring a deeply frustrating campaign on the contrary, with two fewer goals than his counterpart from 18 more encounters.
Eustace will hope his team can sort out their deficiencies in front of goal promptly, whilst Marriott will strive to gain more minutes into his legs to increase his own tally in League One.

It’s safe to say that numerous Leeds United talents have thrived this season, massively helping Daniel Farke in his quest to secure Championship promotion.
The German has led the Whites to top spot, winning 22 games out of their 35 outings, the second most of any side in the division to date – aiding their title challenge.
The forward line has massively impressed, registering 72 goals in the league to date, an average of 2.1 per game – by far and away the best tally in the division.
Leeds United manager DanielFarkeapplauds fans
Joel Piroe has contributed with the most finishes, scoring 15 times – the highest of any player in the second tier – already outscoring his tally from last campaign, subsequently taking his career to the next level under Farke.
The Whites’ star quality in the final third has been made all the more impressive, especially after losing two of their key forwards from last season over the summer window.
Rutter & Summerville’s stats for Leeds in 2023/24
Despite losing the play-off final against Southampton, winger Crysencio Summerville starred throughout the campaign – registering 20 goals and nine assists in his 46 outings.
The Dutchman produced countless moments of magic, finishing as the Whites’ top scorer and would subsequently depart in a £25m deal to join West Ham United after failing to secure promotion.
Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville
Georginio Rutter also starred in the final third during 2023/24, scoring seven goals and 15 assists, with the Frenchman and Summerville contributing with a combined 51 goals – with their tally equating to 63% of the team’s total.
The 22-year-old also departed in a £40m deal to join Brighton, leaving a huge hole in the side, which Farke has done tremendously to fill, given their form in recent weeks.
However, he’s not been able to rely on one player who’s spent the last couple of years out on loan, with the hierarchy needing to cash in on him this summer after his lack of impact elsewhere.

After relegation back to England’s second tier, it was to be expected that numerous players would depart the club to once again play at a higher level.
The likes of Rasmus Kristensen and Max Wober would both depart to join Roma and Borussia Mönchengladbach on loan, respectively, aiming to further their careers after relegation.
However, Jack Harrison also followed in the same footsteps, joining Premier League outfit Everton on loan for the 2023/24 season – looking to play a key role in the Toffees’ survival bid.
The 28-year-old featured 29 times in the league last campaign but only managed to score three times and notch three assists, failing to match the expectations he joined the Merseyside outfit with.
Despite his lack of form, now sacked Everton boss Sean Dyche would re-sign the Englishman for the ongoing season, once again moving to Goodison Park temporarily.

However, this time around, he’s come under serious criticism for his lack of impact in the final third, failing to register a single goal or assist in any of his 27 appearances to date – leading to writer Ell Bretland dubbing him as “abysmal”.
In recent days, Harrison has been linked with a return to the MLS after his previous stint with New York City FC, with Farke and the hierarchy needing to cash in on his signature amid the recent interest in his services.

With his contract not running out until 2028, the Whites will still demand a fee for his services despite his lack of impact at Goodison, but it could have an impact on how much they will receive should they decide to sell him.
Regardless of the fee they’d receive, they desperately need to cash in on his services this summer to avoid losing more money on him down the line.
Should the Whites complete the job and secure promotion in the coming weeks, it’s pivotal they equip themselves with the tools to compete in the top flight – with Harrison no longer at the level required after his form during his loan spell this campaign.
