Celtic are due to return to action in the Scottish Premiership this weekend as they prepare to host Hearts at Parkhead after the international break.

The Hoops are currently 13 points clear at the top of the table and will be hoping to wrap up the title within the next few weeks, before concentrating on winning the SFA Cup to complete a domestic treble.

Brendan Rodgers’ side did suffer a small setback last time out, though, as they were beaten 3-2 at Parkhead by their city rivals Rangers, who scored an 88th-minute winner.

A win against the Ibrox side would have sent them a staggering 19 points clear at the top of the table and put them one step closer to the league, but now they will have to wait a little bit longer.

There were some lessons to be learned for Rodgers and his team in that humbling defeat to Rangers in front of their home crowd, though, that can be used in the final couple of months of the season.

One was that central defender Maik Nawrocki should keep his place in the team and be given more minutes between now and the end of the season.

Why Maik Nawrocki could improve Celtic's defence

It is fair to say that Celtic have had the best defence in the Premiership this season. They have only conceded 20 goals in 30 matches – eight fewer than any other club – and have kept the most clean sheets in the division – 19.

That does not mean, however, that it is impossible for Rodgers to improve the backline in the coming weeks and months, or ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

As you can see in the table above, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales have combined for six errors that have led to shots or goals for the opposition, as well as one penalty committed, in the left centre-back position in the league this season.

This suggests that Celtic could improve their defence by cutting out the avoidable mistakes when playing out from the back or when attempting to make clearances inside the box.

Since the start of last season, Nawrocki has played 11 times in the Premiership for the Scottish giants and he is yet to make a single error that has led to a shot, a goal, or a penalty for the opposition.

The Polish titan won 70% of his duels and made four interceptions, without being dribbled past once, in the game against Rangers, which was his first start of the campaign.

Nawrocki’s outstanding first appearance of the league season, coupled with his error-less 2023/24 campaign, suggests that he could offer more defensive solidity than Trusty and Scales, which is why he could improve Celtic’s defence in the left-sided centre-back role.

Rodgers could, now, repeat the blinder he played by unleashing the Polish ace for the first time this season against Rangers, as his first-choice goalkeeper is set to be out against Hearts.

The latest on Kasper Schmeichel's fitness

Kasper Schmeichel saved a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo for Denmark against Portugal during the international break, but he also suffered a shoulder injury in that match that could see him miss a period of the season.

According to The Scottish Sun, the Danish colossus is not expected to be a long-term absentee, with a view to it extending into next season, but he is due to be out of action for the foreseeable.

The report claims that the former Leicester City stopper will have an MRI scan to determine the exact length of his absence, with the first game he is set to miss coming against Hearts this weekend.

Celtic have the experienced, 33-year-old, Scott Bain, who has played 78 matches for the club in his career, and he could be viewed as the ‘safe’ option between the sticks this weekend.

However, Rodgers should, instead, call upon 23-year-old Viljami Sinisalo to make his Premiership debut for the Scottish giants, in the hope that he can repeat Nawrocki’s success in his first start of the season against Rangers.

Celtic could hit the jackpot with Viljami Sinisalo

The Finland international made the move to Parkhead last summer from Premier League side Aston Villa on a permanent deal and has rarely been seen on the pitch for the Hoops.

To date, Sinisalo’s only appearance in any competition for Celtic came in a 5-0 win over Raith Rovers in the SFA Cup, which also means that he has yet to concede a goal for the club.

The 23-year-old titan’s form for Finland and for Exeter on loan in the 2023/24 campaign, though, suggests that the potential is there for him to be a star for the Hoops.

As you can see in the clip above, Sinisalo has already shown that he can produce big saves on the international stage for his country, with that exceptional double save last summer.

His form on loan at Exeter in the English League One last season also showed that he is an excellent shot-stopper who could catch the eye of the Celtic supporters, if he can translate his performances over to the Premiership.

As you can see in the table above, Sinisalo played all bar one of Exeter’s games in the league last season and conceded 5.45 goals fewer than expected based on the xG of the shots against him.

Schmeichel, meanwhile, has conceded 1.08 fewer than expected in the Premiership this term, which speaks to just how impressive the Finnish star’s form was in the 2023/24 campaign.

This suggests that the potential is there for Sinisalo to be even better than the great Dane as a shot-stopper, if he can reach those levels in the Scottish top-flight, by making huge saves to bail his team out.

That is why Rodgers must unleash the Finland international ahead of the experienced Bain this weekend, because he could emerge as a star performer for Celtic.

Persistence paid off, as he slotted the ball home with three minutes left, but this shouldn’t paper over the cracks.

Igamane was also far from his best, losing the ball 17 times along with having just one shot on target. Dessers, however, appears to have finally shifted his scapegoat tag, despite still missing chances on a regular basis.

Has this now been passed on to Jack Butland? Who endured another poor display for the Ibrox side.

Rangers could now have found the new Dessers

Butland enjoyed a relatively solid debut season for the Gers. His mistake in the dying minutes of the Scottish Cup final against Celtic proved costly, but it was deemed a one-off.

Fast-forward nearly a year later, and the Englishman has made a few high-profile mistakes throughout the current season, with journalist Josh Bunting stating back in December that he was “in a real rut of form”, while looking “shaky”. His mistake against Motherwell at the start of March was costly in the eventual 2-1 defeat.

He also clattered into an opponent during the match against St Mirren on Boxing Day, giving away a penalty that saw the Gers suffer defeat.

Against Dundee, Butland took 42 touches, was accurate with just four of his 13 long ball attempts and completed only 65% of his passes.

It was his mistake for Dundee’s second goal which looked as though it could cost Rangers, however. A weak Simon Murray shot somehow spilt out of his hands and into the path of Joe Shaughnessy, who slotted the ball home to make it 2-0 to the home side.

Given that this wasn’t his first mistake of the campaign, might his time at Ibrox be coming to an end? Especially with a new manager arriving in the summer.

A large section of the fanbase certainly hope so. His penalty shoot-out heroics against Fenerbahçe a few weeks ago are now a distant memory. Mistakes like these can cost the club titles, no doubt about that.

With Dessers having turned the corner, Butland is surely the new high-profile villain for the Ibrox faithful.

Não era dos últimos dias que o meia-atacante estava pensando em deixar o Timão. O incômodo do atleta e a sua família começou em abril, quando o time do Parque São Jorge foi derrotado por 2 a 0 para o Always Ready, da Bolívia, em La Paz, pela Libertadores. Após o revés, alguns jogadores, entre eles Willian, reclamaram de ameaças virtuais que eles próprios e, principalmente, familiares haviam sofrido nas redes sociais.

No caso de Wilian, as filhas mais novas do jogador haviam recebido mensagens delicadas através de um perfil nas redes. Após o episódio, a esposa do jogador ficou receosa de até mesmo mandar as meninas à escola.

Logo quando esses episódios ocorreram, o jogador informou aos seus representantes que estaria disposto a deixar o Corinthians, mas, inicialmente, não foram apresentadas propostas.

Quando a janela de transferências internacionais abriu, o Fulham, da Inglaterra, buscou informações sobre o então camisa 10 corintiano. As tratativas iniciaram entre os ingleses e o estafe do jogador e evoluiu bem. Willian gostou da ideia de voltar a morar em Londres, onde residiu entre 2013 e 2021, quando atuou por Chelsea e Arsenal, respectivamente. A família do atleta também ficou bastante animada.

Ainda assim, a diretoria do Corinthians estava confiante que poderia reverter a ideia do seu jogador, já que o contrato dele com o clube tinha duração até o fim de 2023.

Após a derrota corintiana para o Flamengo, no jogo de volta das quartas de final da Libertadores, na semana passada, Willian procurou a direção corintiana solicitando a rescisão amigável, abrindo mão do que tinha para receber e afirmando que gostaria de retornar para a Europa.

O Fenerbaçhe, da Turquia, também foi atrás do jogador do período, à pedido do técnico Jorge Jesus, mas ali o meia-atacante já estava decidido em voltar para Londres.

BUSCA POR MICHAEL

Sem Willian, a necessidade de um substituto ficou cada vez maior para o Timão, que tinha, a partir dali, pouco tempo para fechar qualquer negócio.

A situação foi diferente de quando, por exemplo, Gustavo Mantuan, foi emprestado ao Zenit, da Rússia, em contrapeso à chegada do centroavante Yuri Alberto ao Timão.

Nessa ocasião, o clube alvinegro chegou a flertar com o nome de Kevin Velasco, colombiano do Deportivo Cali, mas recuou ao saber o valor de 3 milhões de dólares (R$ 15,2 mi, na cotação atual).

Neste período, o Corinthians também teve o primeiro contato com o nome de Michael, ex-Flamengo, hoje no Al-Hilal, da Arábia Saudita.

Intermediários trouxeram à direção corintiana a informação que o atacante estaria insatisfeito no Oriente Médio e desejando retornar ao Brasil. Inicialmente, o Timão não foi a fundo em busca do jogador, mas com a saída de Willian o clube alvinegro esteve atrás de mais informações.

Ainda que confirmasse que Michael desejava retornar ao futebol brasileiro e via com bons olhos a possibilidade de vestir a camisa corintiana, o clube do Parque São Jorge nem mesmo conseguiu abrir negociações com o Al Hilal.

Como o clube árabe investiu R$ 45,5 milhões pelo atacante no início do ano, nem quis papo sobre empréstimo, modelo de negócio que o Corinthians priorizava. A informação que chegou ao Time do Povo era que o Al Hilal só liberaria Michael por algo em torno de R$ 25 e R$ 30 milhões.

Nomes de outros atletas foram oferecidos ao Timão, mas a direção nem abriu conversas. Um deles foi Bernard, ex-Atlético-MG e Seleção Brasileira, que está no Al Sharjah, dos Emirados Árabes.

Por fim, o clube alvinegro viu a janela de transferências fechar e não trouxe reposição a Willian.

No setor ofensivo, resta ao Corinthians as seguintes opções: Adson, Gustavo Mosquito, Júnior Moraes, Ramiro, Róger Guedes e Yuri Alberto.

Ireland openers PJ Moor and James McCollum produced an unbroken double-century stand to steer their side to a ten-wicket win on day three of their tour match against Essex.Both batters scored hundreds – McCollum bringing up three figures with a six that also sealed victory – as the tourists completed their warm-up ahead of the Lord’s Test with a confidence-boosting performance, chasing down a target of 232 in just 42.4 overs. In the process, Moor and McCollum set a new Irish record for the first wicket in first-class cricket.There were runs for Mark Adair, too, playing as a member of the Essex XI, the seam-bowling allrounder crashing 85 from just 66 balls. Na última quarta-feira (31), oTribunal de Justiça do Rio Grande do Sul aceitou uma denúncia contra o lateral-direito corintiano, acusado de supostamente praticar crime de injúria racial contra o meia Edenílson, do Internacional. Dessa forma, o defensor português se tornou réu no processo criminal.

Apesar do processo naJustiça comum, Alessandro mostrou confiança no Departamento Jurídico do Timão, bem como no advogado contrato pelo clube para fazer a defesa do atleta,Daniel Bialski.

-Nosso Departamento Jurídico e o doutor Daniel (Bialski) estão à frente desse caso, estamos em contato todos os dias, acompanhando passo a passo. Algumas audiências já ocorreram, sem grandes novidades. Estamos confiantes – declarou o gerente de futebol corintiano.

O defensor do Timão também será julgado pelo Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva do Futebol (STJD), que acatou a recomendação feita por Paulo Sérgio Feuz, auditor do inquérito.

O julgamento no STJD estava marcado para terça-feira (30), porém Daniel Bianski conseguiu adiar o julgamento pois alegou compromisso previamente assumido para a data inicial do julgamento.

Após se recuperar de uma lesão no músculo posterior de coxa, Rafael Ramos voltou a ficar à disposição de Vítor Pereira na vitória por 1 a 0 sobre o Red Bull Bragantino. Alessandro destacou que mesmo com os processos na Justiça comum e desportiva, o português está focado em ajudar o grupo.

– O atleta está bem, focado, vendo que a gente está participando de tudo e apto, provavelmente, para os próximos jogos. É um assunto que a gente deixa para o nosso Departamento Jurídico, que é apto para cuidar, e acompanhamos no dia a dia com o atleta, proporcionando segurança, trabalho e que sinta confortável para fazer aquilo que ele sabe fazer, que é futebol – destacou

Alessandro também contou que o clube está em contato direto com a família do jogador, e espera que o caso seja resolvido o quanto antes.

– Ele está bem, a noiva está com ele. Conversamos num determinado momento com a família dele também, que ainda não conseguiu visitá-lo. Ele sentiu muito nos primeiros dias e meses, foi um episódio muito ruim para ambos os lados, para ele e o Edenilson. O mais correto é que isso se defina o quanto antes, que se coloque um ponto final, para quem eles possam jogar futebol – concluiu Alessandro.

من ناحية أخرى، توضح صحيفة “موندو ديبورتيفو” الإسبانية، أن ريال مدريد لن يبيع رودريجو بمبلغ يقل عن 100 مليون يورو.

النادي الإسباني لا يستبعد رحيله، ومن جانبه يرغب رودريجو في الاستمرار مع ريال مدريد ولا يخطط لمغادرة الفريق في الوقت الحالي.

وتعددت الأنباء حول مصير اللاعب البرازيلي، مع الحديث عن اهتمام آرسنال بالتعاقد معه رغم عدم تقدمهم بعرض رسمي، كما ذكرت تقارير أن باريس سان جيرمان الفرنسي مهتم بالتعاقد معه.

ويرتبط رودريجو بعقد مع ريال مدريد يمتد حتى 30 يونيو 2028، وفي موسم 2024-2025، شارك البرازيلي في 54 مباراة وسجل 14 هدفًا وساهم بـ 11 تمريرة حاسمة.
