In Focus: Tottenham target Richarlison likely to snub China move

According to reports in the Watford Observer, Tottenham Hotspur could face competition from a number of Chinese Super League clubs in the race to sign highly-rated Watford winger Richarlison.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Spurs were heavily linked with the 20-year-old by The Mirror earlier this month after he made an outstanding start to his Premier League career with the Hornets this term, but the Watford Observer says a big-money offer from China could be in the offing.

The Watford Observer says that several unnamed clubs from the Far East have contacted Watford owner Gino Pozzo about the Brazilian forward, although the Italian is desperate to keep hold of his prized asset who only signed a five-year deal when he joined from Fluminense during the summer transfer window.

Why do Tottenham want him?

It can take some players a while to adapt to life in the Premier League when they first come to England, but that hasn’t proven to be the case for Richarlison.

The wide man has scored five goals – including one in the 2-0 win against West Ham United at Vicarage Road on Sunday – and provided a further three assists in 12 top flight appearances this season.

The tally of the former should perhaps be even higher considering the Brazilian missed some clear-cut chances in the defeat to Chelsea last month, but the huge potential he has shown mean that a number of top clubs will be watching his progress closely.

Would he be a good signing for Tottenham?

He certainly would be.

The youngster would add a new dimension to Spurs’ attack with his pace, direct running and strength in the air, but the fact that he plays on the left wing would perhaps be a small concern considering Mauricio Pochettino has preferred to play with wing-backs and more central attacking midfielders this term.

Could he really go to China?

It really depends on the player, but considering he is 20 years of age and has already made an impression in the Premier League, you would expect him to join a bigger club in England while he can rather than going to China at such an early stage in his young career.

Liverpool’s attacking rotation gives Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a chance to shine

In the biggest game of the weekend at Anfield, it was probably fair that both clubs came away with a point, even if Liverpool were a poorly hit cross away from taking all three.

They’ll be disappointed that Willian’s clipped cross stole over Simon Mignolet and landed in the back of the net, but in the end neither side did enough to be able to complain too heartily at their failure to win, all things considered.

As has been evident all season, though, Liverpool have a wonderful front three that sees the rest of their side pale in comparison. The holes in the Reds’ defence are exposed that little bit more by the scrutiny it comes under because their contribution seems so weak when stacked up against the attack.

This weekend, though, a new member of that front three started against Chelsea. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool from Arsenal in the summer ostensibly to play in the centre of midfield. But perhaps when you’re going to take part in a dynamic attacking trio which includes Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah on top form, replacing one of them with a spot on the left wing may not be too much of an imposition. Actually, if they’re on song, it sounds like a lot of fun.

And Oxlade-Chamberlain seemed to take his chance.

On a day when Liverpool’s attack line was rotated for reasons known only to Jurgen Klopp, both Chamberlain and Daniel Sturridge were given a chance to impress. Only the former Arsenal player came out with an enhanced reputation, however.

Attempting seven dribbles in the game shows his impact, and the clear instructions from his manager to get involved in the game and make things happen. The fact that he only completed four shouldn’t be seen as too much of a drawback: this was up against a packed Chelsea defence, one of the best teams in the league playing a purposefully defensive style. But the mentality he displayed is important – it shows he fits in with the other direct attackers already at the club.

And yet it wasn’t just his directness which stood out. Chamberlain’s contribution to his side’s pressing and their own defensive output was also in evidence. In the Liverpool team all game, only James Milner and Alberto Moreno made more tackles, and on a day when Chelsea clearly felt that the Spanish left-back was the weak link, Chamberlain showed an effective willingness to help the defender behind him.

As performances against big teams go, this wasn’t a bad one for his new club. The summer signing got involved in the game with 63 touches and contributed both defensively and offensively, also providing an assist for Mohamed Salah’s goal. And in the absence of Sadio Mane, he did his chances of getting a regular starting berth under Jurgen Klopp no harm.

Hart to be dropped from West Ham United XI for Chelsea showdown

West Ham United manager David Moyes will drop goalkeeper Joe Hart in favour of Adrian for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea, according to BBC Sport.

What’s happened?

Hart, who signed for the Hammers from Manchester City on a season-long loan in the summer, has faced criticism for some of his performances this season.

The 30-year-old was forced to sit out of last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to parent club City due to loan rules.

Adrian took his place and impressed between the sticks, leading Moyes to pick the Spaniard for this weekend’s meeting with Chelsea at the London Stadium, reports BBC Sport.

Prior to the match against City, Hart had started every single one of the Hammers’ Premier League games (14).

In that time, the team conceded 32 goals and kept just three clean sheets.

Is Moyes making the right call?

Some would argue that a game of this magnitude against an elite opponent should require a goalkeeper with experience of such fixtures.

Hart has won titles with City and would be the obvious choice, but it is clear that the England international has not been at the top of his game.

It is a slight risk for Moyes to throw in Adrian against a team like Chelsea considering that the Spaniard has spent most of the season so far warming the bench.

However, since taking over from Slaven Bilic last month, the manager is yet to win a game having lost three and drawn one.

Perhaps now is the right time to make a change, especially if Adrian has been impressing in training.

Blind would be perfect summer signing for Everton

Everton are seemingly behind West Ham United in the race to sign Jack Wilshere, and the Toffees should step away from a move for the Englishman in order to pursue Manchester United’s Daley Blind ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

What’s the story?

Wilshere is available on a free transfer this summer following his release from Arsenal, and the Englishman has been strongly linked with both West Ham and Everton.

[ad_pod ]

The Hammers have seemingly won the race for his signature – as covered by Sky Sports News – with the 26-year-old expected to sign a short-term contract at the London Stadium.

On the face of it, the news is a blow for Everton, with Toffees manager Marco Silva looking to put together a squad capable of challenging the top six next season.

However, the Merseyside outfit should completely step away from Wilshere and switch their attention to pursuing United’s Blind, who is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer.

The Netherlands international struggled for football at the Red Devils last term, and would surely be open to a move to Goodison Park in this summer’s transfer window.

Why would Blind be a strong addition?

Blind has actually been with United since 2014, and he was a regular during his first two seasons with the 20-time English champions.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”267842″ player=”12034″ title=”Five things we learned from England v Colombia”]

The 28-year-old only made seven Premier League appearances last term, however, and it is understood that he will be allowed to leave for the right price this summer.

Blind’s contract with United will actually expire next summer, and valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, it is unlikely that Everton would have to break the bank to sign him.

A classy footballer who can operate in both defence and central midfield, Blind might well feel that he has a point to prove next season, and there is absolutely no question that he has the credentials to thrive at the highest level.

Blind’s ability to play left-back would also make him a valuable asset for Everton, who should go all out to sign the Dutchman in this summer’s transfer window.

Tottenham fans slam Giroud performance

France booked their spot in the final of the 2018 World Cup with a 1-0 win over Belgium in the semi-finals on Tuesday night.

Samuel Umtiti scored the only goal of the match, with the Barcelona defender’s header proving the difference between the two teams.

[ad_pod ]

Olivier Giroud once again led the line for France, but it would be fair to say that the centre-forward struggled to make his mark.

There can be no doubting that he worked hard, but Belgium’s three centre-backs had a fairly comfortable evening’s work up against Giroud.

Tottenham Hotspur fans do not exactly have a high opinion on Giroud when considering that the Frenchman spent five and a half seasons at Arsenal – where he remains a popular figure – before joining another of their London rivals Chelsea in the January transfer window.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”269905″ player=”12034″ title=”Football’s Coming Home The Myth Behind ‘Three Lions'”]

And the Spurs supporters were quick to poke fun at Giroud’s performance against Belgium in Russia.

Giroud will be hoping to have the last laugh when France compete in the final of the World Cup on Sunday afternoon, but for now, the 31-year-old has been on the receiving end of more criticism.

Rhian Brewster’s new deal is fantastic news for Liverpool’s future aspirations

Liverpool look set to take their summer spending well beyond the £150 million mark with the signing of Alisson, but amid the madness of their spending spree the club have completed a deal which bodes extremely well for the future.

That deal is, of course, the extension of Rhian Brewster’s contract – a deal which put an end to weeks of speculation linking him with a move away from the club. The Daily Telegraph confirmed that the 18-year-old has put pen to paper on a new 5-year deal with the Reds after impressing at youth level for the club throughout his development.

The modern footballing era has been characterised by high-profile transfers, mind-boggling wage demands and the rise of player power in recent years, all of which have contributed to the decline of academy systems in English football.

No long are the academy systems used to carefully hand-pick the next generation of talent for the senior squad; they are now money-making machines designed to train young players to a high-standard before they are sold on in multi-million pound deals.

Of course, this notion applies to the top clubs rather than average Premier League clubs, but there’s no doubt that Liverpool represent something of an exception to the rule: the rise of Joe Gomez and Trent Alexxander-Arnold last season served to illuminate their trust in youth.

The decision to agree fresh terms with Brewster over a long-term contract is yet another indication of the organic approach both Jurgwn Klopp and Fenway Sports Group are attempting to implement, and on the evidence of his short career so far it’s fair to say Liverpool’s latest decision could be hugely significant for the future.

Brewster has already showcased his ability to perform on the big stage by claiming the Golden Boot during England’s U17 World Cup victory in the summer of 2017, and his return of 5 goals and 7 assists from just 11 appearances for Liverpool’s reserves last season suggests he has the clinical instinct to become a future goal-machine in the Premier League.

With blistering pace, an exemplary work-ethic and the composure to make the right-decision in the final-third at the forefront of his game, the signs are positive for Brewster’s future in the game.

Although he only recently turned 18, Brewster could be set for a first-team call-up next season if he proves himself on the training ground during the coming months and, when he comes of age, there is no doubt he has the potential to lead Liverpool’s line and spearhead their bid for silverware across multiple-competitions.

Manchester United fans react to Alderweireld update

Loads of Manchester United fans have been reacting to the latest transfer update, as reports suggest they will not move for Toby Alderweireld this summer.

According to Simon Stone of the BBC, The Red Devils have “no current plan to reignite interest” in Tottenham’s big Belgian.

Alderweireld has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer, but talks have of course been on hold during the World Cup.

It appears those talks may never truly pick back up again though, as Jose Mourinho is instead eyeing up a move for Harry Maguire.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”271323″ player=”12034″ title=”Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus on Football Manager”]

Alderweireld seems to be splitting opinion amongst fans, as the Spurs star is an absolutely tremendous defender, but he is also about to enter his thirties with on-going hamstring problems.

Mourinho needs to make some statement signings to catch up with Pep Guardiola on the other side of town, and Alderweireld is the type of truly top class defender that could get those around him performing better… if he can stay fit.

Fans have been reacting to the update on Twitter, with some celebrating, some fuming, and plenty already lining up other targets.

Signing Forestieri would finally make Victor Orta a Leeds legend

Reports claim Fernando Forestieri could be available this summer, and Leeds could transform their slow transfer window by swooping for one of their local rivals’ star.

What’s the story?

According to HITC, Swansea are eyeing what would surely be a big-money swoop for Forestieri as they look to mount an immediate promotion charge.

The Swans are looking for a marquee signing that can add some goals and dynamism to their side, and a fully fit Forestieri would certainly do the trick.

According to the report, Sheffield Wednesday’s quest to trim their wage bill has left the 28 year-old’s future “uncertain”, with Jos Luhukay being forced to sell before he can buy.

If the Owls’ talisman really is on the market, then Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds should absolutely be eyeing a potential shock swoop.

Wednesday fans might wonder why their talisman would jump ship to a local rival, but the lure of working under a fellow Argentinian and world-renowned manager in Bielsa could tip the scales.

Forestieri is the type of player that can turn an average team into a great one, and would be the type of signing to right all the wrongs that Victor Orta and Leeds have made in recent transfer windows.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”257599″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch Leeds’ opening fixtures for the 201819 Championship season”]

The perfect signing?

If Bielsa is going to bring his patented 3-3-3-1 formation to Elland Road, he needs players that are athletic, versatile, and technically gifted, and the current Leeds squad simply doesn’t have the quality to carry this out. They are also desperately lacking goals, which this move could fix.

Forestieri ticks all the Bielsa boxes, and could be the signing that finally pushes Leeds towards the promotion charge fans are so desperate for. The 28 year-old is fabulously gifted with the ball at his feet, and above all else he knows how to stick the ball in the net, averaging well over a goal every three Championship games for the Owls.

The likes of Pablo Hernandez, Samuel Saiz and Gjanni Alioski give Bielsa plenty of attacking flair and creativity, but none of them quite have that killer end product that you need to surge up the table. This is where Forestieri is a cut above the rest, and why it would be worth splashing the summer transfer kitty on him.

After missing most of last season with injuries, the former Italy youth international returned to grab five goals in ten games towards the end of the season, averaging over one tackle per game, nearly two dribbles and two shots per game. He would instantly overtake Hernandez as Leeds’ most talented player.

Orta and Andrea Radrizzani need a big statement signing to get the fans on side after a frustrating summer, and Forestieri is good enough to make fans forget all about past mistakes.

So, Leeds fans, would you back a shock swoop for Wednesday’s talisman? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…

Leeds fans are excited about striking options with Lukas Nmecha in the frame

Leeds United are set to sign Manchester City youngster Lukas Nmecha on a season-long loan according to The Yorkshire Evening Post.

The 19-year-old striker has only made two Premier League appearances for City, both coming via the bench last season, but he is considered one of the brightest young strikers in English football.

The young talent would be the second loanee from Manchester City this summer following the arrival of Jack Harrison, as Marcelo Bielsa looks to make the most of his good relationship with Pep Guardiola.

Leeds fans were desperate to sign a striker earlier in the summer and following Kemar Roofe’s performance against Stoke City and with Patrick Bamford waiting in the wings, Leeds could have a deadly strike force indeed with the addition of Nmecha.

Leeds supporters have been reacting to the transfer link on social media, and it’s clear to see they’re excited about seeing the youngster at Elland Road this season.
