Derby County should try and give Jonjoe Kenny a platform to grow

Derby County could do with bringing in a defender at some point this month as this is one area that the Rams are most vulnerable in.

The Rams will have their sights set firmly on securing promotion to the Premier League under Frank Lampard, but they may not be able to do this without bringing in another player. And, one player who has shown plenty of quality and could be one of the standout performers in the Championship is Everton’s Jonjoe Kenny, who is currently valued at £4.5 million by Transfermarkt, and so perhaps Lampard should consider strengthening in defensive areas.

Kenny has double honours with England and won plenty of praise from pundits for his displays at the Under 20 World Cup where he was one of England’s standout players. The 21-year-old is a consistent performer with a great temperament, he rarely gets beaten and has the ability to play at the heart of the defence too. Although, it doesn’t look as if he will be a part of the Toffees’ first team this season as he lacked experience at times in the last campaign.

The youngster looks to be a star in the making and has a bright future ahead of him. So, Derby County shouldn’t waste any time in bringing in defensive reinforcements, as the versatile Evertonian could use all of his top-flight experience to help ensure promotion this season.

Indeed, the Rams have already made use of the loan system so far this summer and could look to do the same again, as the loan window shuts at the end of this month. Therefore, moving for a promising defender that has proven his worth in the Premier League could definitely work wonders for Derby County.

Stoke City should offer Ethan Ampadu chance to develop

Stoke City could do with bringing in a defender at some point this month as they are currently lacking depth in that particular area.

The Potters will be hoping that they can enjoy promotion straight back to the Premier League, but this may only be possible if they bring in another player before the end of this month. One player who has shown plenty of promise and deserves regular minutes is Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu, who is currently valued at £4.5 million by Transfermarkt, and so perhaps Gary Rowett should consider strengthening in defensive areas.

The 17-year-old made a number of appearances for the Blues’ first team last season, including a 10-minute Premier League outing against Huddersfield Town. Indeed, the central defender is one of the hottest prospects in the whole of world football and he will no doubt have a huge part to play in Chelsea’s future. However, he will struggle to get into the first team this season as Maurizio Sarri already has a number of defenders at his disposal, so a loan move away seems like the perfect opportunity for him to develop.

Interestingly, the youngster’s maturity levels are higher than some of the more established players in the Premier League, so he’s more than ready to enjoy regular minutes. Stoke City already have a couple of established central defenders at their disposal, but adding the teenager to their ranks would offer something different.

Stoke City were one of the big spenders this summer as they splashed the cash on a number of players, but Gary Rowett will now only be able to bring players to the club in the form of a loan deal as the transfer window has shut. So, moving for a promising defender could be the way to go for the Potters.

Everton fans react as Martina nears exit

Loads of Everton fans have been reacting to the latest transfer news, as it looks like Cuco Martina could join Ashley Williams at Stoke City.

According to Football Insider, Martina is “closing in” on a season-long switch to Stoke.

The 28 year-old is unlikely to see any playing time at Everton with Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman returning to full fitness and Lucas Digne joining in the summer, and the Toffees are “happy to let him leave”.

The former Southampton man, whose Premier League highlight was that incredible long-range goal in the Saints’ 4-0 win over Arsenal, played 28 times for the Toffees last season.

While Martina is definitely not up to the standard required at Everton, the flying full back always gave 100 per cent, something that could not be said for Williams.

Marcel Brands and Marco Silva are hard at work trying to reduce the oversized squad and wage bill, and getting Martina off the books for a season is another smart move from the pair.

West Ham United fans not expecting Wilshere to shine against Arsenal

West Ham United have had a tough start to the Premier League season as they have lost to Liverpool and Bournemouth.

This weekend it gets more difficult as the East London outfit are due to take on Arsenal at the Emirates.

Given the past two results, this fixture has added weight around it, but for Jack Wilshere, this game has an even deeper significance.

It will be the first time that the midfielder has played against the Gunners since leaving them in the summer.

The 26-year-old opted to walk away from his boyhood club when his contract expired, despite being offered an extension.

Wilshere explained that he would have had limited game time under Unai Emery, which is why he called time on his Arsenal career.

In the end, the England international, who has 34 caps to his name, joined West Ham on a free transfer.

The midfielder is likely to start against his former club, but some supporters are not feeling optimistic that he will score or make an impact at the Emirates.

Wilshere is yet to set the midfield alight since signing for the Hammers.

Signing Danny Batth is going to provide Leeds with some crucial depth

Time is ticking on Leeds’ ability to bring in any more loan deals before tomorrow’s deadline.

So far this summer, Leeds haven’t spent too much in the transfer market with Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison being the only permanent signings.

Aside from those two, Leeds have brought in three loan player and have also been heavily linked with a move for Izzy Brown.

The attacker would provide crucial depth for Leeds but it also seems that Bielsa is also keen to add another defender and has strongly been linked with skipper Danny Batth according to the Mirror.

The defender is also a target for Sheffield Wednesday who also want to bring him in before the window closes.

The Breakdown

Batth is now surplus to requirements after falling down the pecking order following the permanent signature of Willy Boly, while new signing, Leander Dendoncker has also played further back for the club.

Bielsa has admitted that he would be keen to add another defender if possible and over a long and tough season, having depth in every position is going to be vita for Bielsa.

As it stands, Leeds only have Liam Cooper, Pontus Jansson, Conor Shaughnessy as the only out and out centrebacks to chose from, although Gaetano Berardi has played in the middle and done very well.

An experienced defender, who knows how to play in the Championship, Batth may not be a standout signing but he could be one that could be crucial in Leeds’ promotion push.

West Ham fans are very unhappy with Pellegrini

According to The Telegraph, West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has flown back to Chile and given his players time off at the start of the September international break.

Former Manchester City manager Pellegrini took charge of West Ham ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, and the experienced head coach was certainly backed in the transfer market.

It has been a very disappointing start to the 2018-19 campaign, however, with the Hammers losing each of their four Premier League matches.

The defeats away to Liverpool and Arsenal were not all that surprising, but West Ham have also lost at home to Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pellegrini is believed to have travelled back to Chile in order to visit his family, meaning that the players not on international duty are currently enjoying some time off.

However, the South American’s decision to return home has not gone down well with the West Ham fans, with many feeling that he should be on the training ground putting things right ahead of the trip to Everton after the international break.

West Brom’s move for De Laet smacks of desperation

According to Football Insider, West Brom have made an approach to sign Aston Villa full-back Ritchie De Laet before the loan window closes.

What’s the story?

De Laet joined Villa from Leicester in 2016 but has made just 14 appearances during his two years at the club. In January this year he was shipped out on loan to Royal Antwerp, the club where he began his career, as he fell behind Alan Hutton in the pecking order at Villa Park.

The Belgian defender can play in any position across a back four but is predominantly a right-back. Before his four year stint with Leicester he was at Manchester United, although he managed just six first team appearances in three years and spent most of his time out on loan.

The 29-year-old now finds himself even further away from the first team at Villa this summer as Hutton, Ahmed Elmohamady and loanee Axel Tuanzebe have all played at right-back, with De Laet making just two appearances in much-changed Carabao Cup sides.

A desperate bid

West Brom recently confirmed the signing of 35-year-old right-back Tyrone Mears on a rolling contract until January, having let Allan Nyom leave the club on loan this summer. However, Mears has likely been brought in as back-up but a deal for De Laet would smack of desperation.

The former Belgium international is no longer seen as good enough for Villa and West Brom are a direct rival who are battling for promotion back to the Premier League, suggesting that he wouldn’t be good enough for the Baggies either.

Darren Moore has also begun deploying a three at the back formation with Matt Phillips playing as an attacking right-wing back. His success in this position has surprised many and De Laet would be too different a player to suit the new system. This is a mistake that Moore must avoid making.

Southampton fans react to video of Steven Davis saying he wants to play for Rangers

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis appeared in a fan video while on international duty earlier this week where he said he would like to play for Rangers again in the future, and Saints fans have been quick to react.

The 33-year-old has found first-team game time hard to come by for the south coast outfit so far this season, and he is yet to play a single minute of Premier League football for them with plenty of midfield competition through the likes of Mario Lemina, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oriol Romeu and Stuart Armstrong among others.

The Northern Ireland international is still a key player for his country however – as he showed with the opening goal in their 3-0 win against Israel on Tuesday night – and if the regular first-team football doesn’t arrive under Mark Hughes in the next couple of months then the skipper will surely seek a January exit.

Southampton supporters, 66% of whom polled suprisingly want Hughes to keep much-criticised star in the starting XI, took to social media to give their thoughts on the video, and while one said “awful footballer, awful attitude”, another said it’s “not hugely surprising”.

Tottenham fans destroy Davies display vs Inter

[ffc_insert title=”Check out the Big Interview with Ben Dinnery & Johnny Wilson” name=”Fixture In Focus Podcast Special” image_ link=”https://fixtureinfocus.podiant.co/e/369d9b4fb86294/” link_text=”Click here to play”]

Loads of Tottenham fans have been reacting to Tuesday’s defeat at Inter Milan, and they’re absolutely crucifying Ben Davies.

Davies’ rise to prominence was one of the stories of last season for Tottenham, as the Wales international made fans forget all about Danny Rose.

The 25-year-old grabbed two goals and six assists last season, but has been really poor so far this year.

Both he and Kieran Trippier have struggled at times so far this season, repeatedly giving the ball away in dangerous situations, and he did the same thing at the San Siro.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”297163″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts MythBusting Rashford & Spurs Headache”]

While Inter were the better team in the first half, they never looked like creating anything themselves, which is why fans are so infuriated by Davies gifting them the ball.

The Welshman misplaced six passes in the first half, the most of any player, and managed just a 78 per cent pass completion throughout the match, the second worst of any Tottenham starter behind Erik Lamela.

Fans are now calling for Rose to be the permanent choice, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

New deal for Declan Rice is only good news for West Ham

After a terrible start to their season, West Ham seem to have finally hit some form this season as the Hammers followed up their win over Everton with a draw against Chelsea at the weekend.

With Chelsea in superb form, holding the Blues to a 0-0 draw was a great result for West Ham and it’s starting to look like Manuel Pellegrini has discovered his best line up. Jack Wilshere picked up an ankle injury a couple of weeks ago and in his absence, Pellegrini decided to play a three-man midfield with Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang playing either side of academy graduate Declan Rice.

The youngster has thrived at the base of midfield, and it looks as though West Ham have found the holding midfielder that they’ve been crying out for and according to The Sun, West Ham are ready to offer the 19-year-old a new long-term deal worth £15,000-a-week.

The Breakdown

The academy graduate is on £3,000-a-week with his current deal and it seems a no-brainer to offer him a new long-term contract to tie him down at the club. Voted as the ‘Young Hammer of the Year’ last season, Rice has established himself as a key part of Pellegrini’s plans and has already made four appearances for the first-team this season.

With his ability to also play as a centreback, West Ham must tie him down to a new long-term deal, a deal which might go some way into easing the pressure off the owners from the West ham faithful.
