West Ham United are closing in on the signing of Boavista defender Goncalo Cardoso, per Sky Sports.

What’s the word?

The Hammers are set to pay £2.75m for the centre-back, reinforcing manager Manuel Pellegrini’s backline prior to Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Indeed, the Irons endured a difficult pre-season, conceding 12 goals in six fixtures.

Cardoso is unlikely to go straight into Pellegrini’s first-team, as he already has the likes of Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena, Angelo Ogbonna and Winston Reid to call upon, he is more likely to be a rotation option.

A teenager

This is a surprising deal from West Ham.

They have been linked with New York Red Bulls defender Aaron Long for some time but it now appears that they have turned their attentions to Cardoso.

Born in 2000, the 18-year-old has made 18 appearances for Boavista since making his debut and is also a Portugal Under-19 international.

But few fans at the London Stadium will be aware of who he is and what he brings to the team; the likelihood is he will spend the first few months of the season on the bench.

But this is where the Hammers are right now. Having splashed a great deal of cash on Sebastian Haller and Pablo Fornals, they simply can’t afford to bring in an experienced centre-back. ClaretandHugh reports that they currently have a transfer budget of less than £5m.

That is despite the club’s startling lack of depth in the position.

Indeed, Reid has struggled with a number of injury woes throughout his career and missed the entire 2018/19 season with a knee issue.

That leaves just Diop, Balbuena and Ogbonna with the fitness to play the entire season. The club could have done with an experienced head, a player willing to come in and potentially play through 15-20 games in a season with a minimum of fuss and a knowledge of the top-flight.

Instead, they have been forced into a deal for a teenager largely because the money isn’t there, and it doesn’t really do a lot to plug the hole in their squad.

He will have to suffice. He still might not be enough.

وقال طارق السيد في تصريحات تلفزيوينة عبر فضائية “أون تايم سبورت”: “المباراة صعبة للغاية والإسماعيلي فريق كبير حتى ولم يكن في حالته المعتادة، يجب الحساب له جيدًا، ومباراتهما لها حسابات خاصة”.

وتابع: “لو الزمالك يرغب في التتويج بلقب الدوري هذا الموسم لابد أن يعلموا أن الفوز وحصد الثلاث نقاط لصالحهم أمر هام للغاية، ولا يوجد رفاهية فقد نقاط، أو التفريط في الوقت، لأن لهم أهمية في مشوار المسابقة المحلية”.

وأكمل: “حزين لما يحدث للإسماعيلي، ولابد أن يعلم لاعبي الزمالك أنهم سيواجهون منافس كبير وله تاريخ فهو يمرض ولا يموت، ويجب التركيز على مباراة اليوم لأنها هامة في مشوار الزمالك في الدوري المصري”.

وأضاف: “الإسماعيلي في المباريات الكبيرة ممكن أن يحدث مفأجاة ويحقق مكاسب مضاعفة”.

وعن أفضل مباراة له امام الإسماعيلي، قال: “نهائي كأس مصر لعام 1999، انتهت المباراة بثلاث أهداف مقابل هدف، وكانت أول مواجهة فعلية لي مع الزمالك”.

وعن أصعب لاعب واجهه من صفوف الإسماعيلي: “أكثر من لاعب، فقد واجهت محمد بركات وإسلام الشاطر وأحمد فتحي”.

Some Newcastle fans are furious with Steve Bruce, after the Magpies boss said his side had a “remarkable” transfer window.

It’s over. The transfer window has slammed shut and we can now stopping checking every day for links to Bas Dost and Thiago Maia.

The Magpies have signed five new players, smashing their transfer record on Joelinton, adding pace and electricity with Allan Saint-Maximin, depth at the full-back position with Jetro Willems and Emil Krafth and finally a welcome homecoming with the return of Andy Carroll.

Still, there is a feeling that the overall ability of the squad didn’t improve much, considering the likes Salomon Rondon, Ayoze Perez and Mo Diame left.

Bruce clearly disagrees with that statement, saying: “Remarkable (the transfer window). I’m delighted. A lot of hard work has gone in. They’ve backed me.”

While the final three words should be music to the ears of any fan base, the infamous Mike Ashley’s decision to back Bruce, and formerly Steve McLaren, but not Rafael Benitez has irked the Toon Army.

They also feel Bruce is only saying what his boss wants him to say, bashing the gaffer for being a “puppet” and a “yes man”.

Having turned down a possible move to north London rivals Tottenham, Dani Ceballos certainly had a head-start in endearing himself to the Arsenal faithful.

The Spain international was reported to be in talks with Spurs, but a conversation with Gunners boss Unai Emery convinced him to head to the Emirates for the 2019/2020 campaign. And after an impressive display against Burnley in his first Premier League start for the club, Ceballos could quickly establish himself as a cult hero – even if it only is for one season.

The 23-year-old was at the centre of everything in the game, constantly wanting to receiving the ball in tight spaces and then showing his heart and desire by chasing down the opposition. The Gunners looked regularly uncomfortable with playing out from the back, but Ceballos embraced the responsibility and offered his teammates an option to pass to.

In fact, as per Whoscored, Ceballos created the most chances of any Arsenal player, including assists for both goals, completed the most passes and had the most touches of the ball, highlighting how central he was to the 2-1 win.

That kind of fearless approach translated into some incredible dribbling inside his own half, twisting and turning away from Burnley’s hustling midfielders. It was the kind of midfield performance the Gunners used to be treated to when Santi Cazorla was in his prime at the Emirates. Both Cazorla and Ceballos represent those diminutive but silky type of playmakers, carrying the team forward with calmness and poise.

Whilst Ceballos may only be in north London for just this campaign, if he can continue to produce performances similar to the one against Burnley, he will establish himself as a firm fans’ favourite. The Real Madrid loanee’s industry and energetic work drew regular rounds of applause from the Arsenal crowd, and whenever he was in possession, there was almost an air of expectation about what he was going to do.

The Gunners have been blessed with some of the Premier League’s best midfielders in recent years, with the likes of Cazorla and Cesc Fabregas standing out in particular. If Ceballos can enjoy a campaign similar to the ones of his Spanish compatriots, then he will leave the Emirates next season as a cult hero.

وتحدث كروكس عن الأمر في تصريحات للشبكة الشهيرة، وقل: “لدي تعاطف كامل مع اللاعبين المتذمرين من تقنية الفيديو”.

وتابع: “أكره ما تفعله تلك الخاصية هنا في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، اعتقد أن يجب عليهم بعض القواعد مثل التسلل، فأنت لن تسجل هدفًا بيديك”.

وأضاف: “إنه أمر مقلق للغاية عندما يكون لديك لاعبون من الطراز الرفيع وبالدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز ويعبرون عن عدم حبهم للتقنية في الإعلام والصحافة”.

وأتم تصريحاته: “عندما يقول محمد صلاح، لا أحب تلك الخاصية، عندما قال هندرسون إنها تدمر لعبة كرة القدم، يحتاج الأشخاص الذين وضعوا القواعد إلى التفكير بجدية للنهوض بتلك الرياضة”.

وتحدث جوميز في البداية عن الفوز أمام الأهلي في تصريحات لصحيفة “Global Publisher” التنزانية، وقال: “فخور بهذا الانتصار، لم يكن سهلًا، لقد قاتلنا من أجله”.

وتابع: “الأهلي فريق كبير في إفريقيا، لكننا أثبتنا لهم أيضًا أننا نمتلك اللاعبين القادرين على تحقيق نتيجة إيجابية أمامهم، لقد بذلنا قصارى جهدنا للفوز على الرغم من معاناتنا في بعض الفترات خلال المباراة”.

وأضاف: “كل لاعب في سيمبا قد بذل قصارى جهده في تلك المباراة لضمان الفوز، وهو ما ظهر أمام الجميع، كانت مسئولية جماعية من البداية حتى صافرة النهاية ولا أريد التحدث عن لاعب بعينه”.

Lots of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to praise Fabinho, after the midfielder turned in a brilliant performance in the 3-1 win over Arsenal.

The Brazil international played a huge role in the Reds’ comfortable win over the Gunners, where a double from Mohamed Salah and a thumping header from Joel Matip earned Jurgen Klopp’s side the three points.

Fabinho was a monster in that defensive midfield role which he has now made his own at Liverpool.

He displayed an eye-catching blend of defensive strength and attacking intelligence, shown by the fact that he registered four key passes – including one assist – but also completed two tackles – his presence out on the pitch is of huge significance to the Merseysiders.

The role in which the 25-year-old operates in often goes unnoticed, doing the dirty work in midfield without grabbing too many headlines, but the Liverpool fans on Twitter were more than aware of just how good the former Monaco man was.

Celtic were the victors from the Old Firm derby on Sunday as goals from Odsonne Edouard and Jonny Hayes settled the game.

The Hoops took the lead in the first half and then sealed things late on when they found room on the counter.

Neil Lennon’s side looked comfortable for large parts of the match, particularly in defence, as they kept a clean sheet.

A large part of that was down to the performance of Hatem Elhamed, who earned plenty of praise from supporters after the match on Twitter.

The 28-year-old was hailed as unreal and fantastic whilst one individual suggested he was the best player on the park at Ibrox on Sunday.

A fellow fan claimed he was the best right back in the division as another went as far as saying he’d now have a statue built for him.

The Israel international signed this summer from Hapoel Be’er Sheva and has made five appearances since joining.

This was his second league start and on the evidence of this showing, plenty more will be on the way.

وأكمل: “يمكنك أن تثق في المحمدي دائمًا، إنه شخص تحتاجه في فريقك، لاعب رائع ويقود الفريق في الملعب”.

واختتم: “المحمدي لا يخذلك أبدًا، وتحتاجه مع مجموعة اللاعبين الشباب في الفريق”.

المحمدي بدأ آخر مباراتين لفريق أستون فيلا أمام ليستر سيتي وليدز يونايتد، بعدما تعرض الظهير الأيمن الأساسي مات كاش للإصابة.

منذ 2017 خاض المحمدي 123 مباراة مع أستون فيلا في مختلف المسابقات، وتمكن من قيادة الفريق للصعود إلى الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز الموسم قبل الماضي.

خلال هذا الموسم شارك المحمدي في 11 مباراة، من ضمنها مباراتان في مركز قلب الدفاع في كأس كاراباو.

وينتهي عقد المحمدي مع أستون فيلا في الصيف المقبل، وحتى الآن لم يتفاوض النادي مع اللاعب المصري لتمديد إقامته في ملعب فيلا بارك.

This year Real Madrid have nine players that were thrown in the hat.

The chosen team will be revealed at the Best Fifa Football Awards in Milan on 23 September.

But interestingly enough, many Real Madrid fans took to Twitter to voice their disappointment over the nominated players from their club.

They did not set out to defend them but rather to slam them for even being mentioned as some of the best the world has to offer.

Many of them seem to believe only some of the players, like Eden Hazard and Karim Benzema for example, warranted their entry, while most of the other players have no place on that stage.
