Having secured Champions League football for their upcoming campaign, Chelsea have been linked with many top players to improve their title-challenging squad – and Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Jan Oblak remain on Frank Lampard’s transfer radar.

The Blues have already signed Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from Bayer Leverkusen, and they are not stopping there. Frank Lampard has ordered his recruitment team to find world-class players in order to catch up with champions Liverpool and giants Manchester City next season.

Frank Lampard has underplayed rumours linking 21-year-old German superstar, Kai Havertz, with a move to the Blues this summer; however, according to the Evening Standard, Chelsea have stepped up their pursuit of the young midfielder after finishing in the top four of the Premier League.

The club are in talks with Bayer Leverkusen over Havertz who is set to leave for big money, speculated to be over £70m.

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper, Jan Oblak is another transfer target identified by Frank Lampard. Since dropping £70m keeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga for their make or break last game of the season against Wolves, it looks ever so likely that the Blues will make a move for the world-class Slovenian shot-stopper.

Throughout the season, Chelsea have shown interest in England international duo, Ben Chilwell, and Declan Rice. Chilwell looks certain to leave Leicester during this summer transfer window, with interest from many top clubs.

Declan Rice has also been linked with a move away from West Ham for quite a while, and it is thought that Lampard is keen on signing a new centre-half to play alongside N’golo Kante.

Verdict

It would make sense for Chelsea to bring in Ben Chilwell as they have been struggling with their left-back position for some time, and the addition of Declan Rice would not be a bad transfer for Chelsea, though their midfield is notably one of, if not the strongest area in their team currently.

Jan Oblak would not make sense unless Kepa is offloaded for near to the price they paid for the Spaniard, and this does not look likely.

Despite this, if the Blues have the money to spend then securing a world-class goalkeeper would be a good signing, having conceded 54 goals in the Premier League last season.

Again, Kai Havertz would be a phenomenal signing, and he would play brilliantly alongside fellow countryman Timo Werner, but do the Blues really need another attacking-midfielder to add to the depth of that position already?

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that the Toffees are firmly interested in luring the Brazilian to Goodison Park, although it’s been claimed that they face significant competition from both rivals home and abroad.

Now, The Athletic have revealed that Gabriel has been at the top of their list for potential centre-back targets, but that both Arsenal and the current financial situation surrounding most clubs across Europe has struck a blow to their chances.

O’Keeffe said: “Everton’s aim was to start by signing Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes, who has long been top of their list for centre-backs and is believed to have been keen on the move. The Athletic understands that deal remains in the balance, though, with Arsenal also strongly interested in the £25 million-rated, 22-year-old Brazilian and Everton yet to agree a fee with his French club, given the economic hit suffered by all clubs as a result of the pandemic.”

Proving Carlo Ancelotti right

When Carlo Ancelotti took the job at Goodison Park late last year, it was no doubt seen as a major coup that Everton had landed one of the most renowned and decorated managers in recent European footballing history.

It was a sign that the Toffees were heading in the right direction, and were absolutely intent on muscling in on the Premier League’s traditional ‘big six’.

These transfer windows are arguably the big proving point for the Everton hierarchy, in the sense that they can show Ancelotti first-hand just how ambitious they really are.

Whilst money may well be tight given the circumstances, landing one of the Italian and the club’s priority targets would send the message that they mean business. Miss out on him, and in particular to rivals Arsenal, and it would really bring into question whether the Toffees are ready or even able to back their manager.

As per The Daily Record, Alfredo Morelos is said to be committed to Glasgow Rangers amidst interest from Lille.

Morelos has been linked with a switch to the Ligue 1 outfit, with him said to have agreed personal terms with the club.

However, although he is said to be unhappy with previous moves being blocked, he is believed to be committed to Steven Gerrard’s side and is more than happy to stay at Ibrox.

Considering those reports saying he has agreed a move away, it is somewhat of a shock to now hear that he would be happy to remain in Glasgow, but it would be fantastic news for Gerrard. Even though he has recently signed Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten, losing a player with 79 goals in 140 matches would be a blow to his chances of winning his first piece of silverware since making the move north of the border.

Of course, with almost two months of the transfer window still left, there remains plenty of time for the situation to change, but this does offer a glimmer of hope to the 54-time Scottish champions that their star player could be with them for a little while longer.

According to a report from the Evening Standard, Tottenham have been ‘offered’ a chance to sign Almeria striker Darwin Nunez as the club reportedly set their sights on a backup striker to Harry Kane – and chairman Daniel Levy could have to pay just £14m to make it happen. 

Nunez, who bagged an impressive 16 goals in the Spanish second division last season (Transfermarkt), has also been linked with other Premier League clubs chasing a forward, including Brighton and Southampton.

Having turned heads with his prolific return on the continent for Almeria over 2019/20, prompting comparisons with Edinson Cavani, clubs could be eyeing bargain swoops like Nunez to cope with financial losses brought upon by the global pandemic.

Spurs fall into this category, having borrowed £175m from the Bank of England in recent months, and Nunez could represent a goalscoring option on the cheap who has bags of potential.

Reaching his first double figures campaign at the tender age of 21, Tottenham could do far worse than Nunez, and Evening Standard journalist Dan Kilpatrick has revealed that the Lilywhites have been ‘offered’ the Uruguayan as a striking option ahead of the new Premier League season.

This comes after a report that chairman Levy is struggling to progress with further deals due to Serge Aurier’s continued presence at the club, with Spurs allegedly wanting to sell him off before concluding any more transfers. So far, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen have come knocking, but Levy reportedly won’t accept any bid under £23m – the same figure paid to bring him to north London back in 2017.

Hopefully Tottenham can come to an agreement with Aurier in order to bring in a talented prospect like Nunez.
