Leeds United have the chance to restore their form and brush off their recent 4-2 loss at the hands of Arsenal. Despite their impressive displays against Leicester City and Crystal Palace, Mikel Arteta’s side outclassed them last time out.

Tonight is their chance to resurrect their mistakes. The Whites will travel to Molineux to face off against Wolves in a bid to keep climbing the Premier League table.

Injury has plagued Leeds’ returning top flight season as they have been without the likes of Robin Koch and more recently, key players Kalvin Phillips and Rodrigo. However, Marcelo Bielsa has given a positive update in his latest press conference, confirming that summer signing Diego Llorente is match fit.

“[Mateusz] Klich and Llorente are available. Phillips and Rodrigo are not,” the Argentine declared.

This is a huge boost for Leeds, who will be able to field a strong defensive line against Wolves this evening. In both Llorente and Koch’s absence, Bielsa has been forced to deploy Luke Ayling and the lesser favoured Pascal Struijk at centre-back. However, tonight, Llorente could return to the action to partner Liam Cooper as they prepare to take on Nuno Espirito Santo’s in-form attack.

The Spaniard signed for his new club back in September on a deal worth £22,000 per week. But since his arrival, he has been limited to just two Premier League appearances in his debut campaign. According to Transfermarkt, Llorente has been sidelined for a total of 127 days, missing 21 matches all in all.

The new recruit has a lot to prove after being out for so long, not like Koch who took to his new club like a duck to water. But for Llorente, he is yet to establish himself as a solid part of Bielsa’s squad. This could all change this evening with an influential performance against Wolves.

Given how the Whites were dismantled by Arsenal in the first-half last week in the Premier League, bringing a natural centre-back in Llorente back into the fold and perhaps moving Luke Ayling back to right-back could hold the key to giving Bielsa’s side a bit more defensive stability.

The Leeds boss must throw his summer signing straight back into the team on Friday night.

Segundo a nota divulgada no site do Sampaio, a tendência é que Marcos Assunção chegue a São Luís no início da próxima semana. After failing to take their chances last week, Arsenal face Benfica in the second leg of their Europa League clash on late Thursday afternoon, knowing that the tie is very much up in the air.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed a host of chances to put the game to bed, but the Gunners’ profligacy in front of goal ensured that things are left well poised at 1-1.

Mikel Arteta made a few changes to his starting line-up for the weekend’s Premier League defeat to Manchester City, perhaps with one eye on his team selection for Thursday.

And with that in mind, below is a look at how the Gunners might take to the field against Benfica.

In goal, Bernd Leno will keep his place as the Gunners’ undisputed number one, although he is likely to see some key changes to the men in front of him.

Rob Holding has been ruled out for Thursday’s game due to concussion protocols, so David Luiz should be brought back in. The Brazilian could be joined by compatriot Gabriel, as Arteta goes back to the centre-back duo that started in the first leg last week.

Depending on Kieran Tierney’s fitness, the Gunners boss may stick with the Scotsman, but on the other side, he may choose to drop Hector Bellerin, and instead go with Cedric, who of course set up Bukayo Saka’s equaliser in the reverse fixture.

In midfield, Thomas Partey is unlikely to be risked from the start despite confirmation from Arteta that he’s pushing for a recall, and that could see Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos hold down the midfield positions.

Further forward, the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe should all feature, while the other big call Arteta may make is dropping Aubameyang.

The Gabon international had the horror showing in the first leg, with Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp even claiming he is past his best. Gabriel Martinelli has been restricted to substitute appearances lately, and is surely pushing for a start, especially given that Arteta took Aubameyang off for the 19-year-old against Benfica in the first leg.

وعن انضمامه للمنتخب واللعب في غير مركزه، أوضح: “أحمد الله على انضمامي لمنتخب مصر في كأس العرب، وهذا يجعل عليك مسؤولية أكبر أن تؤدي أفضل مما كنت عليه”.

وتابع: “أما عن مركزي فأنا مُقتنع بكلام والدي الذي يقول طالما اللاعب لديه القدرة البدنية إذن يُمكنه أن يلعب في أي مركز”.

وأكمل: “أن يكون معي مدير فني كبير مثل علي ماهر ويدفع بي في مركز الظهير والجناح، فهذا شئ يعطيني الثقة”.

وعن موقفه من العودة للزمالك نهاية الموسم، أوضح: “كل الأمور التعاقدية مع وكيلي، وأنا ليس لي علاقة بها إطلاقًا”.

After Kalvin Phillips was ruled out with a calf problem against Arsenal in the Premier League last week, Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa turned towards young starlet Jamie Shackleton as one of the players to be thrown into the starting line-up.

The 21-year-old started the game at the Emirates in an unfamiliar role at right-back, before being asked to play in central midfield in the clash against Wolves.

Though both games ended in a Leeds defeat, there were promising signs from Shackleton, with Leeds Live declaring that his passing against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side showed decision-making and maturity beyond his years as he operated in a more no.6 role.

But with Bielsa confirming that Phillips is once again set to miss another Whites game, this time at home to Southampton on Tuesday night, the Leeds boss may be more inclined to unleash Shackleton as a more box-to-box presence.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against the Saints tonight, Bielsa said: “I believe in Shackleton as an important alternative for Leeds United. He’s in a similar process to that of Pascal (Struijk).

“The only thing is that Pascal has a continuity that Shackleton hasn’t been able to have. I conisder him a player that I can trust and I’m satisfied with what he has brought to the team. Apart from that, he is a very serious player, very applied and very conscious of what is needed to play at this level.”

Against Wolves, it was Mateusz Klich operating in that box-to-box role, but Shackleton’s youthful energy and dynamism could be exactly what is needed to pose the opposition a slightly different threat than the ones they’ve faced over the past couple of games.

Speaking after his cameo in that 5-0 win over West Brom earlier this season, the Leeds boss said of the 21-year-old: “Good organisation, energetic, he’s quick, he can surprise opponents, plays in a position which has many varieties as a box-to-box midfielder.”

And, after he produced an energetic display against Aston Villa, Leeds Live’s Beren Cross wrote: “Settled in so quickly and linked up the play between midfield and attack beautifully. So important for his confidence and visualising himself in this team going forward. Tireless running and helped Klich win that midfield battle with McGinn and Barkley.”

Allowing him more licence to roam and join up with Leeds’ attacks may be the third successive different role that Shackleton has been used in over the past week or so, but it could be the key to getting the best out of him, and in turn change the Whites’ fortunes.

Bielsa desperately needs something to click in Phillips’ absence, and giving Shackleton the chance to break free from his more defensive-minded shackles and keeping things simple against Wolves, could be a real game-changer for tonight.

Carlo Ancelotti should urge Marcel Brands to launch a summer swoop for Everton to sign a second Richarlison-type player in VfB Stuttgart forward Silas Wamangituka.

What’s the word?

According to Eurosport, Wamangituka has caught the attention of a clutch of Premier League clubs with his dazzling efforts in the Bundesliga this season.

The 21-year-old has been the star of Stuttgart’s campaign since Die Roten returned to the German top-flight last summer, netting 11 of his side’s 44 goals while providing three assists.

Wamangituka, who is under contract at the Mercedes-Benz Arena until 2024, is considered to be one of the most exciting talents across the Bundesliga, having delivered an instant impact while tackling matches with a distinctive style of play.

His pace and finishing excellence from a wide position is thought to have Everton and Fulham on alert, along with talent spotters from some of Germany’s bigger clubs.

The DR Congo native is likened to Arsenal’s £72m forward Nicolas Pepe for the way he broke out at LOSC Lille to seal his move to the Emirates Stadium in 2019, having provided 22 goals and 11 assists in 38 Ligue 1 appearances.

Should Everton sign Wamangituka?

Ancelotti urging Everton’s Director of Football Brands to launch a pursuit to sign Wamangituka this summer could see the Dutch chief acquire a versatile dynamo, who is capable of playing on either wing as well as in behind the striker.

The £22.5m-rated speedster is able to find the back of the net on either wing, too, having struck nine goals and produced three assists from 19 games on the right-flank along with two goals in two Bundesliga outings from the left.

Fitness rarely seems an issue for the 21-year-old, either, with the energetic winger starting 21 of his 22 appearances while sitting out just one fixture to date this term.

Arsenal’s Pepe is not the only player Wamangituka has been likened to, as well, with former Gunners Head of Scouting Sven Mislintat, now Stuttgart’s Sporting Director, comparing the Paris FC product with Gabon star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

“There are some differences between them, of course, but also many, many similar things,” Mislintat told Bundesliga.com. “His father was a player, defensive midfielder, playing for the national team of Gabon, hard worker and Auba got this attitude.

“And he has learned quite a lot also from Jurgen Klopp in working defensively. If they adopt this and they are able to do this, then they will become big, big stars in football with their qualities and their mindsets. And this is what Silas did as well.”

Mislintat also describes Wamangituka as a “scoring machine”, along with being “humble, hungry for success, [and] he would like to improve his game every day.”

Wamangituka’s drive, output, style and versatility would not be too dissimilar to Richarlison if brought to Everton, offering Ancelotti two high-calibre options for either wing.

“I think he [Richarlison] cannot play centre-forward because he is really good at attacking the line and to play centre-forward, most of the time you have your back to the goal,” Ancelotti said, via quotes by the Liverpool Echo. “I think for him, better is centre-left.”

The Toffees boss has also praised his star Brazilian for his defensive contribution, noting via quotes by the Mirror: “I was not happy with him against Newcastle because I think he could work more. Against Leeds, he did fantastic defensive work and I was pleased with that performance.”

It remains to be seen how much Stuttgart would value Wamangituka at the end of the season, but Everton should certainly sound out the Bundesliga side’s position.
