Shubman Gill taken for scans after blow to left forearm

Shubman Gill, the India opening batsman who copped a blow in his left forearm while fielding at forward short-leg on the third evening, has been taken for a “precautionary scan”, the BCCI confirmed on Tuesday, the fourth morning of the second Test in Chennai. It was the last ball of the 18th over of the England second innings, bowled by R Ashwin, and Dan Lawrence stretched out to get to the pitch of the ball and swept with power. Gill tried to take evasive action at the close-in position but the ball still hit him in his hand.Only one over was bowled on the day after that incident, and the BCCI said via a tweet on Tuesday: “Shubman Gill sustained a blow on his left forearm while fielding on Day 3 of the 2nd Test. He has been taken for a precautionary scan. The BCCI Medical Team is assessing him. He won’t be fielding today.” The fourth day started with England at 53 for 3 chasing 482 for victory, and a 2-0 lead.Gill made his Test debut on the recent tour of Australia, and scored 45, 35*, 50, 31, 7 and 91 in his three Tests there as India won the series 2-1. He finished the series with an impressive average of 51.80, only behind Ravindra Jadeja’s 85.00 and Rishabh Pant’s 68.50 among Indians. Then, in the first Test against England, also in Chennai, Gill scored 29 and 50 even as India lost by 227 runs to fall 1-0 back in the four-Test series, and he had scores of 0 and 14 in the ongoing game.

Spurs in talks to sign £68m England gem who’s similar to Musiala

Tottenham have started their summer transfer window with purpose, acquiring Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray for around £40m, and Lucas Bergvall from Djurgarden for £8.5m.

Ange Postecoglou will be happy with the investment so far ahead of the next Premier League season, getting some very promising young midfielders, but attention could now turn to some forward reinforcements, to help the likes of Son Heung-min in the next campaign, spearheading the attack.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.

Son scored 17 goals in 36 appearances last season for Spurs, with the next-best tally coming from Richarlison, netting 12 goals in his 31 appearances. They were the only two players to get double-digit goal tallies.

Tottenham chasing England international

According to reports from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are seriously considering a move for Crystal Palace star, Eberechi Eze.

It is understood Eze is open to offers, and he has a release clause of £60m plus £8m in add-ons. It's reported that there has been talks with agents to discover the potential terms of a deal.

The reports also state Spurs interest in Rennes winger Desire Doue. However, with his fee possibly being inflated towards that similar £60m fee that Eze would cost, it could deter Tottenham from getting involved.

Eberechi Eze celebrates for Crystal Palace

The England international could add that extra creative spark in attacking areas for the Lilywhites, with an ability to add goals from open play and set pieces too. The 26-year-old made 31 appearances in all competitions for Palace last season, scoring 11 goals, and providing six assists.

How Eze is similar to Euro 2024 star Jamal Musiala

The players rank as each other's closest "similar player" via FBref's compare feature, and whilst one has been lighting Euro 2024 up, the other has made a few appearances from the bench, but the similarities in their styles of play and best qualities are worth speaking on.

Musiala – once of Chelsea – made 38 appearances in all competitions for Bayern Munich last season, scoring 12 goals, and providing eight assists. The German also started all five of Germany's Euro 2024 games, scoring three goals.

Both players want to be heavily involved in the attacking third, whether it's creating chances for others, or finding space for a shot themselves. Eze only got three fewer G/A for Palace last season, as Musiala got for Bayern, and this was playing in a far worse side.

Both players love to beat their man, taking players on and using their high level of dribbling to create chances and advantages. Eze averages 3.02 successful take-ons per 90, but surprisingly only averages 2.98 progressive carries per 90.

Whilst Musiala averages 4.07 successful take-ons per 90, ranking him in the top 1% of wingers and attacking midfielders in Europe for this metric, but also averages 5.3 progressive carries per 90, nearly double Eze in this stat. Either way, they are both very strong ball carriers who love to make things happen in the final third.

Jamal Musiala

The fact Musiala makes more could well be down to the fact Musiala is playing in a much more ball-dominant team, where teams sit off a bit deeper and progressive carries are important to breaking the lines, whilst Palace for large parts of the season, were hitting teams on the break.

So, by putting Eze in a possession-orientated side, he would get far more frequent chances to carry the ball and get into 1v1 situations, which would see vast improvements in his other metrics, and also his G/A output on a better side.

Imran Khan's Kabul visit might help revive Afghanistan vs Pakistan bilateral cricket

“Afghanistan playing Pakistan has a big [commercial] potential and a big viewership,” PCB CEO Wasim Khan says

Umar Farooq23-Nov-2020

Ties between the Afghanistan and Pakistan boards were broken in the aftermath of the 2017 Kabul bombing•Afghanistan Cricket Board

Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan’s visit to Afghanistan last week could well pave the way for a revival of cricketing ties between the two neighbouring countries. The relations were severed in 2017 following a bomb blast in Kabul, for which the Afghan authorities had blamed Pakistan.Imran’s visit to Afghanistan, his first since forming the government in August 2018, was primarily to meet Ashraf Ghani, the Afghan president, with an eye on strengthening relations between the two countries. While in Kabul, former Pakistan captain Imran also met the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s chairman Farhan Yousafzai and a number of national team members – Asghar Afghan and Mohammad Nabi among them – with the ACB expressing its desire to play bilateral cricket. As such, cricketing relations between the two countries go back a long way, with many prominent Afghanistan players having learnt the basics of the game while being refugees in Pakistan during the war years.”We have played a major role in their [Afghan] cricket development and are still open to extending our support whenever required,” Wasim Khan, the PCB chief executive officer, told ESPNcricinfo. “They are Full Members at the ICC and one of the key players in South Asia, and we are very much looking forward to taking our relationship forward.”That, however, might not happen immediately, with the international cricket calendar being as packed as it is. “We are always open to talk to revive our ties and work out a slot for any series in our FTP. But this year, or the next, it’s tough to make it,” Wasim said. “But Afghanistan playing Pakistan has a big [commercial] potential and a big viewership.”ESPNcricinfo understands that while the Pakistan foreign office or the prime minister’s office hasn’t discussed the matter with the PCB yet, Imran has noted the ACB’s request to play Pakistan. When it comes to playing Afghanistan (or India), the decision is left to the Pakistan government – and not the PCB – because of the often-strained political relationships with the countries concerned.Members of the PCB and the ACB were last seen together in 2017 at the PCB’s Gaddafi Stadium headquarters when they signed an agreement to play bilateral cricket starting with friendly T20s in Kabul and Lahore in July and August that year. But then the deadly bombing incident happened on May 31 that year. The ACB released a statement soon after, saying “no agreement of friendly matches is possible between both parties. In light of the findings of security services and calls by the Afghan nation, the ACB hereby cancel all kinds of cricket matches agreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board.” The PCB took exception to the comments, describing the allegations as “baseless” and “irresponsible”.Things then turned ugly when Afghanistan and Pakistan faced off at the 2019 ODI World Cup at Headingley, with reports of clashes between the two sets of fans in the stands and even outside the stadium. Now, with Imran taking the lead and the ACB willing to put cricket first, things might go back to the way they were.

Nottingham Forest eyeing Nuno upgrade who’d take Wood to the next level

Nottingham Forest face a big summer ahead of them if they are to build on the 17th-placed finish achieved in the Premier League during the 2023/24 campaign.

During the season, the Reds changed managers with fan-favourite Steve Cooper replaced by Nuno Espírito Santo, following a run of six matches which included five defeats and one draw.

The Portuguese boss managed to secure the club another season of top-flight football on the final day, despite receiving a four-point deduction for breaking the league’s PSR limits.

As a result of the previous points deduction, the club will have to operate shrewdly this summer to bolster their playing squad, but also to avoid any further PSR breach which could put their future Premier League status at risk.

Leicester City have become the latest club charged with an alleged PSR breach, but what could happen next?

ByStephan Georgiou Apr 16, 2024

However, despite keeping the Reds in England’s top-flight, the job expected of him upon his arrival at the City Ground, Nuno could find himself being replaced before the start of the 2024/25 campaign, by one manager owner Evangelos Marinakis knows very well.

Forest interested in Premier League boss

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Nottingham Forest are targeting a deal for Fulham boss Marco Silva should they decide to brutally part ways with Nuno during the off-season.

Fulham manager Marco Silva.

Silva, who like Nuno is Portuguese, has done an excellent job at Craven Cottage in recent seasons, pulling the club clear of any looming relegation threat, and transforming the Londoners into a solid Premier League side, with little investment from the owner.

The Fulham boss has previously worked under current Reds owner Marinakis, taking charge of Greek outfit Olympiacos for the 2015/16 campaign, before leaving for personal reasons with a win rate of 79% in his 48 games in charge.

The 46-year-old has been in charge of the Cottagers for nearly three years now, leading them back to the Premier League before keeping them up for two consecutive seasons – returning the club to a stable top-flight outfit.

However, the report does go on to state that he has a £9m release clause in his current deal, with any side free to negotiate with Silva should they trigger the deal within his current deal.

It would be an excellent coup for Forest should they get the deal over the line, with one player in particular set to benefit from any potential arrival of Silva in the East Midlands.

Why Silva would be an upgrade on Nuno

There’s no denying that Silva would be an upgrade on Nuno based on the 2023/24 campaign, with the Fulham manager blowing the former Wolves man out of the water.

The former Olympiacos boss has averaged 1.24 points per game in the Premier League over the last 12 months, 0.19 more than Nuno could muster despite taking charge of 17 games fewer.

Silva managed to lead his side to more than double the number of victories compared to Nuno, collecting 25 less and finishing 15 points behind the Cottagers come the conclusion of the campaign.

Although he would be an upgrade on the current managerial situation at the City Ground, the current boss would allow Chris Wood to reach the next level on Trentside.

The New Zealand international managed to score 14 goals in the Premier League this season – his joint-highest tally – a great return from a player who was seemingly written off at the start of the campaign.

However, the “unbelievable” Silva, as described by the outgoing Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, managed to turn striker Aleksandar Mitrovic into a force to be reckoned with during his team at Craven Cottage – with the Serbian scoring 57 times in just 68 appearances under the Portuguese boss in London.

He’s clearly capable of getting the best out of his centre forwards with his side scoring 55 goals in the 2023/24 season, a tally that was six higher than the Reds.

Whilst Nuno has done an excellent job in keeping Forest in the Premier League, fully deserving of another season to implement his system, there’s no denying Silva would be an upgrade on the current Reds boss, with Marinakis having a huge decision to make over the coming weeks.

Talks held this week as £52m ace likened to Vinicius eyes Chelsea transfer

Chelsea have held talks over signing a forward who has been likened to Real Madrid superstar Vinícius Jr "this week", and apparently he wants to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

Stewart and Winstanley making Chelsea transfer plans

As per reliable journalist Matt Law, writing an update for The Telegraph, Chelsea's co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley are safe from the axe as chairman Todd Boehly looks set to oversee the club's end-of-season review next week.

£35 million forward has now played his last game for Chelsea

ByEmilio Galantini May 16, 2024

The former Brighton chiefs faced criticism at points over 2023/2024 for their overhauling of Chelsea's squad last summer, which saw the average age of Mauricio Pochettino's squad drastically drop.

The lack of experience and senior figures in Pochettino's team was often pinpointed as a reason for their poor form earlier in the campaign, but results have taken a positive turn lately with Chelsea now on the verge of European qualification.

Brighton 1-2 Chelsea

Nottingham Forest 2-3 Chelsea

Chelsea 5-0 West Ham

Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham

Aston Villa 2-2 Chelsea

Stewart and Winstanley are therefore set to lead Chelsea's transfer strategy again when the window reopens for business on June 14, and it is believed the west Londoners are keen to sign a striker, left-back and central defender (Matt Law).

The most blockbuster name on their agenda, according to various reports, is Napoli star Victor Osimhen. It is believed Chelsea recruitment chiefs think Osimhen is the "perfect" frontman, with the Nigerian also favouring a move there.

In defence, depending on whether they decide to stick with their head coach beyond this season, there are rumours that Pochettino wants Chelsea to replace Thiago Silva with Barcelona's Ronald Araujo.

Since Clearlake Capital's takeover in 2022, a reoccurring theme of Chelsea's incomings has been their young age. The club have signed a long list of players under or exactly the age of 23, and widespread reports indicate they could soon add Palmeiras starlet Estevao Willian as well.

Chelsea hold talks over signing Estevao Willian "this week"

According to journalist Rahman Osman, Chelsea have held talks over signing Estevao "this week", and it remains the case that the ace with a £52 million release clause wants to join Pochettino's side after verbally agreeing personal terms (Fabrizio Romano).

The 17-year-old has attracted interest from the likes of Real Madrid as well as Chelsea, with Estevao praised as bearing a resemblance in playing style to one of their key stars, Vinicus Jr.

"Estevao is one of those players who has the talent to fit into any major league in the world," said Brazilian football expert Guilherme Goya to football.london.

"Initially, I see La Liga as a more favoured league for him, which would allow him more space to develop his game through dribbling and deep passing. I see similarities to the Real Madrid duo Vinicius Junior and Rodrigo.

"The Palmeiras wonderkid is also fully capable of enduring intense games like those in the Premier League. He knows how to play in offensive transition and has the ability to overcome opponents in a short space, getting these characteristics from futsal. Possessing awareness of the game allows him to adapt when it comes to individual plays but he also has a good pass to help in collective construction."

Contact made: Liverpool hold talks over move to sign new £85m star for Slot

Liverpool have reportedly made contact with an £85m-rated star who has been tipped to become a "legend" of the game, with other Premier League clubs also in the mix.

Liverpool transfer news

The Reds will have Arne Slot in charge as manager from June 1st, with the Dutchman officially confirmed as Jurgen Klopp's replacement at Anfield on Monday, signing a three-year deal. He may have transfers in mind, in terms of players who will suit his style of play down to the ground, and he will be working hard on new additions alongside the likes of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes.

One player who has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool is Odilon Kossounou, with the Bayer Leverkusen title-winning centre-back seen as someone who could make up for the departure of Joel Matip. The 32-year-old is leaving on a free transfer, following eight excellent years at the club.

Bayer Leverkusen'sOdilonKossounouin action with Hertha BSC's Linus Gechter

Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville is another potential transfer target for the Merseysiders, having shone brightly for the Whites this season. He has scored 20 goals in the Championship in 2023/24, ahead of his side's playoff final meeting with Southampton on Sunday, and also took home the Player of the Season award in the division.

There are also exit rumours affecting Liverpool, however, and Alexis Mac Allister has been backed to complete a shock summer move to Real Madrid, with the La Liga giants seeing him as a great option to replace Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. The Argentine could leave alongside Mohamed Salah, although the 31-year-old did post on social media on Monday, sending a message to the supporters that suggests he is looking forward to next season.

Liverpool in talks for £85m-rated future "legend"

According to a new update from Caught Offside, Liverpool have held talks over Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva, who has an £85m release clause.

The report states that "Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have all had some contact" over the potential signing of the 20-year-old who is "prioritising a move to the Premier League". There is also believed to be "interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain", though. Silva has been linked with the Reds in recent times, with one update even claiming that they are looking to hijack Manchester United's move for him.

antonio-silva-newcastle-transfer-news-opinion-premier-league

Centre-back is an understandable point of focus for Liverpool this summer, given Matip's exit and the fact that there are concerns about Ibrahima Konate being able to remain injury-free for long periods.

In Silva, the Reds could have a wonderful long-term option, with the Portuguese still only 20 but already a key man for Benfica, making 46 appearances this season, in all competitions. He also appeared once for Portugal at the 2022 World Cup, and former Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has said of him:

"At the beginning of the season he started playing with Morato, who is a very good player, but then, because of the injuries they had to put the kid Antonio Silva, but the boy will be a legend. If he keeps doing what he’s been doing, he has everything to be one of the best defenders in the world in a year or two."

Slot could turn "outrageous" Liverpool star into his own Phil Foden

This high-flying Anfield player is starting to shape into an irreplaceable member.

ByAngus Sinclair May 21, 2024

This perfectly illustrates how highly Silva is regarded, and while €100m (£85.4m) is a huge amount to pay for any player, he could be a bargain if Liverpool get around 10 high-quality years out of him, making this one to watch.

Jadon Sancho accused of joining Chelsea 'for the money' with Man Utd loanee walking into 'inconsistent' club that 'must have two dressing rooms'

Jadon Sancho has been accused of joining Chelsea "for the money" as the Manchester United loanee walks into a club with "two dressing rooms".

  • Said to have taken a pay cut
  • Petit thinks otherwise & has questioned transfer
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Sancho has shifted base from Manchester to London following a deadline day loan deal to Chelsea which includes an obligation to purchase the Englishman next summer, with the fee ranging between £20 million (€23m/$26m) and £25 million (€29m/$32m), depending on where the Blues finish in the Premier League.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After a nightmare spell at Old Trafford, Sancho was eager to revive his career and hence joined Chelsea after reportedly accepting a significant reduction in his salary. However, not everyone is convinced that Sancho’s move to Stamford Bridge is solely about football. Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has suggested that the 23-year-old’s decision to join the Blues might be driven more by financial incentives than a genuine desire to re-establish himself on the pitch.

  • WHAT PETIT SAID

In an interview with BetVictor, Petit said: "The club are not the only one responsible for the situation, it also comes down to the players. How can Sancho bring himself to sign for Chelsea after what happened at Manchester United? He was loaned to Borussia Dortmund, then went back to United, and now he’s off to Chelsea who have 40 or so players and he is just one of them.

“Hasn’t he had enough of moving around clubs, losing his way on the pitch and losing his confidence? Now he’s at a club that has no consistency, lacking in confidence and results. If he’s not there for the money, what is he there for?”

  • DID YOU KNOW?

In addition to criticizing Sancho’s decision, Petit also voiced his concerns over Chelsea’s broader transfer strategy. He questioned how the club, under the leadership of Todd Boehly, could maintain any sense of unity or coherence within a squad that seems to be perpetually expanding.

“I’m not sure how you can create unity between players who only think about themselves,” he said. "We should rename the transfer window as ‘the Chelsea transfer market’. I just don’t get what Todd Boehly’s transfer policy is.

“When I saw they had signed Jadon Sancho on deadline day, I wondered if there was even any shirt numbers left for him. Imagine him opening the door to the dressing room and seeing so many players – they don’t all fit in the same dressing room! At the training ground, they must have two dressing rooms, three pitches and 12 physios.”

Manchester City to offer £15k-p/w ex-player intriguing non-football role

Manchester City are set to offer a former player an emotional return to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Manchester City's summer plans

City are in the midst of another impressive campaign under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. The Sky Blues' treble hopes have been dashed after their Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid, but they are once again in the FA Cup final and sit one point off the Premier League summit with a game in hand on league leaders Arsenal.

As the 2023/24 season draws to a close, attention has begun to turn to the Manchester outfit's plans for the summer. Unsurprisingly, Man City have been linked with some big names on the pitch. Recent reports claimed the Citizens want to sign Lokomotiv Moscow forward Sergey Pinyaev in the summer window.

Elsewhere, Pep Guardiola and co. are said to be looking to sign Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes and have approached the player's camp over a move, although they are expected to face competition from title rivals Arsenal and PSG on that front.

Meanwhile, on the outings front, it emerged earlier this week that Manchester City could choose to sell Jack Grealish this summer, with a "shock sale a growing possibility" once the current campaign comes to an end.

bryan-gil-jack-grealish-tottenham-opinion

But while Manchester City look set for a busy summer on the pitch, they are also seemingly lining up a potential move behind the scenes as well.

Manchester City to offer ex-player non-football role

According to the Daily Record, Manchester City are set to offer Joe Hart an emotional return to the Etihad this summer after he draws his playing career to a close.

The 37-year-old confirmed he will be retiring at the end of the current season, and as per the aforementioned report, City's offer to Hart will likely be for a non-footballing capacity or an ambassadorial role, with Hart not thought to be keen on going into coaching.

Joe Hart

Hart will bring his playing career to a close at Scottish outfit Celtic, whom he joined in 2021, and currently earns £15,000 a week. Despite his age, Hart has maintained a starting berth for The Hoops, notching 32 league appearances this term as Celtic look to add yet another league title to their collection.

And while the Manchester faithful may love to see Joe Hart return to the club he made his name at, the former England international recently hinted a stay at Celtic Park could be on the cards once he hangs up his boots.

Speaking at an event in his honour last week, he said: "I've not taken any coaching badges, that was quite a conscious decision. I know that coaching and management is ingrained in a lot of people. But for me, it doesn't necessarily do it for me. I want to help, I want to give back, but there's different ways that I can do it.

"I'll always be available to Celtic if they ever need to lean on me for anything, I've made the manager and the club aware of that. But coaching a specific team? That's not something that I'm looking to do."

Therefore, it appears Hart may have a decision to make as he mulls over a potential return to the club where he won two Premier League titles.

West Ham would make bigger error than Scamacca by letting “magician” leave

David Moyes was typically stoic in the aftermath of West Ham United's first-leg Europa League quarter-final defeat against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night, remarking that he gives his team "half a chance" of overturning the deficit.

Leverkusen, controlled by Xabi Alonso, have been a veritable machine, unstoppable, this season and after Liverpool's shock 3-0 loss against Atalanta are the clear favourites to lift the trophy, unbeaten all season, miles clear in the Bundesliga title race and into the DFB Pokal final.

James Ward-Prowse against Bayer Leverkusen

For the Hammers, seventh place in the Premier League and a valiant display on the bank of the Rhine speaks of a campaign of comparative success, with no telling how it will conclude at this stage.

Still, while Moyes will be content with West Ham's position, the lack of a high-level striker has been a regular theme and Gianluca Scamacca's excellent display against Liverpool serves as a reminder of the ruefulness of his departure last summer.

Gianluca Scamacca's performance vs Liverpool

West Ham signed Scamacca from Sassuolo for £35.5m back in July 2022 after he scored 16 Serie A goals throughout the 2021/22 campaign, though he was branded "miserable" by pundit Chris Sutton during his time in London.

Clearly disgruntled with life in England, the Italian scored only three times in the Premier League before returning to his homeland at the end of the season, joining Atalanta in a £27m deal.

At Anfield, as per Sofascore, Scamacca scored two clinical goals from just two shots on target but also took 51 touches – when compared to Darwin Nunez, who touched the ball only 25 times, the 25-year-old's influence is underscored.

But not just a goalscoring threat, the centre-forward won a whopping ten duels and made four tackles in a stunning display of commitment and fortitude to silence an already flat Liverpool atmosphere.

These are the characteristics that enticed Moyes into forging ahead with his transfer, and these are the qualities that would make such a marked impact on the current West Ham squad.

Gianluca Scamacca looks dejected for West Ham.

The club must ensure they do not make the same mistake again and must reject the vested interest from Manchester City in influential midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who may be on the move this summer.

Why West Ham must keep hold of Lucas Paqueta

According to SportBILD, West Ham will demand £100m from Manchester City for the departure of Paqueta this summer, with the star scoring eight goals and adding seven assists in all competitions this season.

Paqueta has a release clause in his Hammers contract but Moyes and co must do everything within their power to ensure that he does not fall into rival hands.

His ball-playing skills, vision and drive bring so much out of West Ham – namely threatening teammates Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen – and having been hailed as a "magician" by journalist Robbie Mustoe, his abilities are clear.

As per FBref, the 26-year-old ranks among the top 10% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for passes attempted, the top 8% for progressive passes, the top 1% for tackles, the top 18% for interceptions, the top 16% for blocks and the top 4% for aerial wins per 90.

He's an all-encompassing monster of a midfielder, irreplaceable, and allowing him to depart this summer would be detrimental. West Ham need to sustain their position in and around European competition.

After all, the Brazilian is contracted to the London Stadium until 2027 and with a lack of clarity over Moyes' managerial position at the end of the campaign, allowing such a masterful creative threat to join a Premier League rival might not be a prudent move.

Lucas Paqueta for West Ham

Moyes' deal with West Ham expires this summer and while the poor spell throughout January and February prompted the bosses to hold on negotiations, the manager has recently claimed that he has a fresh offer on the table.

This West Ham squad has given so much but still has so much to offer. Paqueta, one would think, must remain at the core to pump playmaking quality and technical ability unmatched by most top Premier League stars.

Manchester City might present a lucrative package to glean Paqueta's services, but the squad is steadily improving and has already spread reinforcements following Declan Rice's £105m transfer to Arsenal last summer, and to lose another powerhouse might tip the scales too far.
