أكد عمرو الدرديري، المتحدث الرسمي باسم نادي الزمالك، أن الفريق حقق فوزًا هامَا جدًا في توقيت قاتل من مباراته أمام طلائع الجيش.

وفاز الزمالك على طلائع الجيش بهدفين مقابل هدف، في المباراة التي جمعت بينهما مساء الخميس، ضمن منافسات الجولة الثالثة والعشرون من مسابقة الدوري المصري الممتاز.

أضاف الدرديري خلال استضافته عبر برنامج زملكاوي، المُذاع عبر قناة الزمالك: “فوز هام جدًا وفي توقيت حاسم أول مرة أرى الزمالك يفوز +90 وهذا شيء هام جدًا للزمالك، فريق الطلائع صعب ومباراة كانت ثقيلة”.

تابع: “الزمالك يمر بظروف استثنائية ولاعبيه لم يتقاضوا مستحقاتهم المادية وطبيعي يكونوا مشتتين بجانب غياب عناصر مؤثرة في الفريق”.

وواصل: “لاعبو الزمالك كانوا رجالًا وتربعوا على قمة الدوري رغم المشاكل المتواجدة ولهم مستحقات مادية وكانوا صامدين وحققوا الفوز على الطلائع ويستحقوا بطولة هذا الموسم”.

استكمل: “ضغط المباريات مشكلة كبيرة، وعندما تحدثنا مع اتحاد الكرة قالوا المنافسين مثلكم، هذا دوري استثنائي وظروفه صعبة على الجميع ويريدوا أن ينتهوا من الدوري”.

أردف: “المشكلة الوحيدة هي مباراة كأس مصر أمام الإسماعيلي صعب أن يلعب الزمالك 3 مباريات في ثلاث محافظات خلال 6 أيام هذا أمر صعب جدًا”.

أكمل: “تحدثنا مع الإسماعيلي حتى نؤجل المباراة أو ننقلها للإسكندرية بدلاً من إقامتها في السويس، ولكن الإسماعيلي رفض نقل المباراة إلى الإسكندرية”.

أوضح: “حدث لقاء ما بين المستشار القانوني للزمالك وعادل الشوربجي وشرح الموقف للأخير وتفهم الأمر وسيعود لاتحاد الكرة، وخلال الأيام المقبلة ستحل مشكلة إمام عاشور، لن يتغير شيء في العقوبة من الممكن بعد الاستئناف يقوموا بإلغاء الغرامة المادية”.

اختتم: “الزمالك كان سيعاقب إمام عاشور عن الذي فعله ولكن لجنة الانضباط لم تعطي الفرصة ثاني يوم أصدروا عقوبة ضد اللاعب”.

Wolverhampton Wanderers return to Premier League action tomorrow when they host Aston Villa at Molineux, just a couple of weeks after their local rivals knocked them out of the Carabao Cup.

Nuno Santo’s side will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the top-flight to a seventh straight game.

Meanwhile, off the pitch, the club continues to be linked to a whole host of names as we rapidly approach the January transfer window.

It is no secret that Wolves are desperate for a centre-back after seeing Willy Boly break his fibula during training, and that was after BirminghamLive’s reports on their transfer aims.

But it is the link to Burnley’s Dwight McNeil which is most intriguing – does he even fit the system? Is he good enough?

All of these questions marks surrounding him barely outweigh the potential impact it may have on Pedro Neto.

On the Chalkboard

The 19-year-old only joined Molineux in the summer, yet he has found game time hard, even in Diogo Jota’s absence.

To some extent, an injury of his own has played some part in that, but even when fit, he’s just not been given enough experience to prove his worth.

Neto has made 13 appearances this campaign, just one of those being a start in the Premier League.

His manager wasn’t best pleased by his comments after being substituted against Newcastle United either.

He is the only left-sided forward, aside from Jota at the club, and this is a role that McNeil plays for Sean Dyche up in Lancashire.

Last season he made his breakthrough, scoring three goals and assisting five more from just 19 starts while this season he looks to have continued that on with one goal and three assists, per WhoScored.

Against Chelsea not too long ago, he played like a man possessed – not only picking up his first strike of the season but also a 95.7% passing success rate, six successful dribbles, and two key passes.

Maybe it was this performance that has tempted Wolves to potentially match Burnley’s £30m valuation of the winger.

Nuno could unleash a frightening frontline with Adama Traore on the other wing and Raul Jimenez centrally, it would just mean that Neto’s chances of becoming a first-team regular would take an even bigger dent.

After securing their first away win of the season, slightly lifting the pressure off Marco Silva’s shoulders, supporters were quick to highlight one player’s performance.Â

Morgan Schneiderlin, who has long been an unlikeable character in the eyes of some Evertonians, started alongside Tom Davies in the heart of the Toffees midfield against his former club during their 2-1 win over Southampton at St. Mary’s.

His defensive midfield partner grabbed the opener with a bullet header inside the first five minutes, before ex-Liverpool striker Danny Ings equalised for the home side shortly after half time.

From then on, the result was up in the air, with Southampton pushing for a winner only to be caught on the counter-attack – with Djibril Sidibe setting up Richarlison for a dramatic winning goal 15 minutes from full time.

Despite a much-needed victory, some supporters were quick to jump on Schneiderlin’s sub-par performance after he appeared to be at fault for the Saints’ equaliser, hinting that the Frenchman is a liability.

Tottenham’s summer signings haven’t quite had the impact that Mauricio Pochettino would have wanted.

Spurs brought in Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon and Tanguy Ndombele in the last transfer window, but all three men have had their Spurs careers halted by injury.

However, it seems as if that injury hell won’t last much longer, as Lo Celso and Sessegnon have finally returned to first-team training.

The London club uploaded a video of a training session on their YouTube channel, and one clip showed exactly what Sessegnon can bring to Spurs.

The former Fulham man netted what can only be described as a trademark strike of his.

Left-footed finishes like this became a regular occurrence during his time at Craven Cottage, and this is the first look of what he will bring in a Tottenham shirt, pinging a beautiful finish off the inside of the post.

The £30m man may be in line for his debut in the coming weeks, and if he can consistently produce finishes like that he’ll quickly become a fan favourite.

They were centre-back partners in Chelsea’s shock 2012 Champions League win over Bayern Munich.

Once again, they lined up together in the Blues’ FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal in 2017.

They were also teammates as the Londoners secured the Premier League title that same year.

Now, however, David Luiz and Gary Cahill are playing for different London clubs in Arsenal and Crystal Palace respectively, and find themselves the topic of a particular debate sparked by the BBC’s Garth Crooks.

Crooks wrote in his Team of the Week segment:

“It is coming to something when Crystal Palace fans start ‘insisting’ who I should put in my team of the week. Just what it has got to do with them I don’t know.

“However, I did find myself bowing to the wishes of one of their followers who was mightily impressed with Gary Cahill’s performance against West Ham.

“He also went on to tell me that he couldn’t understand why Chelsea had let him go when they obviously need his experience in view of who they are currently playing at the back.

“He then went on to say, “how could Arsenal pay Chelsea £8m for David Luiz when Cahill went on a free transfer?”. He does have a point.”

It is the final paragraph that is the topic of conversation today.

Has Cahill been a better signing for Palace than David Luiz was for Arsenal?

Well, let’s delve into the stats.

For a start, the England international has helped the Eagles to two clean sheets in his six Premier League appearances so far, recording an impressive 5.2 clearances per game – Palace won four and drew one of those games.

The 33-year-old’s experience has shone through in his performances for the south Londoners so far, where his reading of the play and composure on the ball have been the main eye-catching aspects.

He also didn’t cost Palace a penny in terms of a transfer fee, strengthening his case in the ‘Cahill vs Luiz’ debate.

Now let’s look at the Brazilian. As is often typical with him, David Luiz has made a few errors for the Gunners already in just seven Premier League appearances.

The 32-year-old gave away a penalty against Liverpool for a tug on Mohamed Salah’s shirt, and was also woefully out of position for Christian Eriksen’s opener in the north London derby.

His most recent performance offered signs of encouragement having scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Bournemouth, but the negatives of his season outweigh the positives as of now.

In Cahill’s case, it is very much the opposite. He has played a key role in helping Roy Hodgson’s side sit 6th in the table – just one point behind Arsenal – and given the fact he was signed on a free transfer, it seems more than fair to adjudge him a better capture for Palace than Luiz was for Arsenal.

Maybe the north Londoners made the wrong choice.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Romelu Lukaku has tipped Scott McTominay to become “very important” for Scotland over the coming years.

What did he say?

The Manchester United midfielder has come through the ranks at Old Trafford, and featured in Scotland’s heavy defeat to Belgium earlier this week.

Despite the result, Lukaku has thrown his backing behind his former United teammate, and insisted he can become a major part of things at international level.

He said: “If you give Steve (Clarke) time, he will get it right. He is the right man to give young players a chance and to test them. Scott McTominay can be very important for Scotland, but he is not the only one. I think you have a lot of good talents coming through.”

Improvements

Since breaking onto the scene in the 2017/2018 campaign under Jose Mourinho, McTominay has become more and more important at United. The 22-year-old appears to be nailing down a place in central midfield under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and has shown signs of making vast improvements in his development over the past few months.

His numbers this season considerably better what he averaged in the previous campaign, and this improvement represents someone who is keen on embracing the responsibility of being a key United player.

Lining up in a holding midfield role alongside Paul Pogba, McTominay has averaged 1.5 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per game in the Premier League, compared to just 0.6 and 0.9 last year.

Further forward, the academy product continues to get more involved with the play in the final third, averaging 1.5 shots and 0.8 key passes per game this season. At the end of the previous campaign, he had averaged a measly 0.9 shots and 0.1 key passes per game.

If McTominay can keep making improvements year-in and year-out, then there is no reason why he can’t be a “very important player” for both Scotland and United too.

Lots of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to praise Fabinho, after the midfielder turned in a brilliant performance in the 3-1 win over Arsenal.

The Brazil international played a huge role in the Reds’ comfortable win over the Gunners, where a double from Mohamed Salah and a thumping header from Joel Matip earned Jurgen Klopp’s side the three points.

Fabinho was a monster in that defensive midfield role which he has now made his own at Liverpool.

He displayed an eye-catching blend of defensive strength and attacking intelligence, shown by the fact that he registered four key passes – including one assist – but also completed two tackles – his presence out on the pitch is of huge significance to the Merseysiders.

The role in which the 25-year-old operates in often goes unnoticed, doing the dirty work in midfield without grabbing too many headlines, but the Liverpool fans on Twitter were more than aware of just how good the former Monaco man was.

TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino does not believe that Mauricio Pochettino will be Tottenham Hotspur manager at the end of the season.

What’s he said?

Pochettino hinted at frustrations with the club’s transfer policy on Tuesday after Real Madrid were beaten 1-0 in a pre-season friendly.

The Argentine claimed that he was not in control of dealings and that his job title should be changed from manager to coach, as he simply coaches the team.

And Cascarino believes that, following a season in which Spurs reached the Champions League final, Pochettino may have taken the club as far as he can.

He said: “We all question whether Frank Lampard will still be at Chelsea by the end of the season and if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will still be Manchester United manager next summer.

“But the one I feel is the more likely to go from the top six first is Pochettino.

“I look at Poch and I just feel from what’s happening and what he’s communicating, I’m not sure he’s going to be there at the end of this season.

“I just don’t see it.

“I think it was as good as it was going to get for them last year, with them getting to the Champions League final.”

He added: “I think there’s an element of frustration that his imprint in the club is still not where he thinks it should be.

“He’s been at the club a long time and they haven’t won anything and there’s frustration in the way he’s talking.

“When he used the words, ‘now my job is the coach’, he’s sort of saying it wasn’t that when he first joined the club and he had a much bigger say on who came in, but now he’s saying he’s just given the players and is coaching them and trying to improve them, which he is doing.”

Smart analysis

Spurs fans won’t like hearing it but Cascarino could well be right.

Now, of course, Spurs have spent a club-record fee this summer to buy Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon.

But they have yet to strengthen anywhere else; there have been no signings in defence and none in attacking midfield either, despite the persistent links with Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis.

As it is, Spurs could be heading into the season with a weaker squad than last term.

And that is sure to frustrate Pochettino, who called for a rebuilding job in north London at the end of the 2018/19 season.

One imagines it would be remarkably difficult for Pochettino to find himself sacked – it would surely take an incredible downturn in form – but frustrations could well boil over and the Argentine could take his leave.

It would be a jolt to the system for most Spurs fans but, at the same time, it may not be a surprise.
