There is very nearly nothing on the line. If England win, they finish No. 2, which does not change their semi-final tie – they will play South Africa regardless. But that little bump up the table will certainly help them progress if the Guwahati knockout is subsequently rained out.New Zealand leave themselves at risk of slipping down to No. 7 or 8 if they lose, but even that is unlikely – Bangladesh having to beat India by a significant margin. The White Ferns will nevertheless be intent on salvaging a victory from an otherwise disappointing campaign. They had had to endure two washouts in Colombo, but have only beaten Bangladesh in their completed matches, going down comfortably to South Africa, India, and Australia.It is also Sophie Devine’s last match in the ODI format, with New Zealand’s captain having announced her retirement at the end of this World Cup. Devine is 36. Team-mate Suzie Bates, who is 38, could also be playing her last World Cup match, though she has not herself announced a retirement.England, meanwhile, may use this as an opportunity to tune up ahead of the final. They have consistently put up the same XI most of the way through the campaign. She had been the form batter of the tournament weeks ago, when she hit 112 against Australia, 85 against South Africa, and 63 against Bangladesh. The back-to-back washouts might have broken a litttle of her rhythm however. Can she regain it for her final ODI innings?Between Sophie Ecclestone (11), Linsey Smith (9), and Charlie Dean (7), England’s frontline spinners have 27 wickets in the tournament. None of these bowlers have gone at more than five an over (Dean has been by a distance the most expensive, with an economy rate of 4.73). They’d mostly had a quiet game in the loss to Australia. They will attempt to reimpose themselves.

Christian Pulisic has been ruled out of AC Milan's squad for Saturday’s Serie A clash with Lazio after manager Massimiliano Allegri confirmed his absence. The American, who scored the decisive goal in last weekend’s derby win over Inter, withdrew from training Wednesday with muscular discomfort – another setback. Milan went on to win 1-0 without the U.S. international.

During his pre-match news conference, Allegri alluded that Pulisic would not be available for the weekend fixture at San Siro.

"Pulisic is unlikely to play, although there are still two days until the match and anything can happen," Allegri said. 

The Rossoneri have moved quickly to adjust their tactical approach, with Christopher Nkunku partnering with Rafael Leão in attack. The Frenchman has only started two Serie A games so far this season and will look to make an impact in a rare starting opportunity. Leão scored the game-winner in 51st minute.

According to , Pulisic's latest issue is described as a “thigh strain” after recently returning from a previous injury layoff. The report notes that he has been working to accelerate his recovery, including increasing the intensity of individual training sessions, while Milan’s medical staff has recommended a more cautious approach.

The coaching and medical staff are not expected to take risks with the injury, as it affects the same leg that sidelined Pulisic earlier in the season.

Injury interrupts Pulisic's stellar form

Pulisic’s setback comes during a strong start to his season, with seven goals in 10 appearances across all competitions. He previously missed four games with a hamstring injury sustained during international duty with the United States in October. The American returned to action as a substitute in Milan’s 2-2 draw with Parma on Nov. 8, then started and scored the winner in the derby against Inter on Nov. 23.

While the exact duration of Pulisic's absence remains unclear, Milan face a demanding schedule in the coming weeks that could influence his return to action. The Rossoneri will travel to face Lazio again in the Coppa Italia on Dec. 4, followed by a Serie A clash against Torino on Dec. 9. 

Despite the £200m spending spree in the summer transfer window, Manchester United have failed to address the need for a new central midfielder in Ruben Amorim’s side.

His 3-4-2-1 system requires two dominant ball-playing options, with Bruno Fernandes currently occupying one of the two positions at the heart of the side.

The Portuguese international is primarily a number ten, but the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have seen him drop into a slightly deeper number eight role.

Casemiro has often been the man to partner him in the middle of the park, but with his contract expiring at the end of 2025/26, it’s evident that a long-term solution is needed.

As a result, the Red Devils have since been drawing up a shortlist of potential options, with the January transfer window now rapidly appearing on the horizon.

Man Utd’s hunt for a new central midfielder in January

In an attempt to improve the options in the midfield department, the United board have identified Stuttgart star Angelo Stiller as a potential addition this January.

The German has developed into one of Europe’s leading performers, but he could be available for a fee in the region of £53m – a potential bargain given his recent rise in the Bundesliga.

However, he’s also seemingly on the radar of European giants Bayern Munich, which could lead to a huge battle for the 24-year-old’s signature in the months ahead.

He’s not alone in being a potential target for Amorim’s men, with Joao Gomes another talent that’s currently being considered for the central midfield role.

According to one Brazilian outlet, the Red Devils are advancing in talks for the 24-year-old, with a £44m transfer fee being mooted for his services this winter.

The report notes that a deal is ‘widely expected’ to be completed and that the player is ‘close’ to transfer clubs over the winter.

It also states that the Wolves star would be open to a switch to Old Trafford, but it remains to be seen if his current employers would sanction a move during the mid-point of the campaign.

Why United’s latest target would be a better signing than Anderson

Over the last couple of weeks, Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson has been another player who has been on their radar to bolster the central midfield department.

The Englishman has been one of the star men in the Premier League this campaign, leading to a first string of international appearances under Thomas Tuchel.

He’s featured in every single minute of the Reds’ league campaign to date, even playing a key role in the recent 3-0 triumph over Liverpool at Anfield this weekend.

His form has led to huge rumours over a potential switch to Old Trafford, but his current side are demanding a fee in the region of £100m to part ways with him in the near future.

Such a deal would be a club record, breaking the £89m fee paid for Paul Pogba way back in the summer of 2016 – potentially making a transfer somewhat unlikely this winter.

As a result, cheaper alternatives will likely have to be considered by Amorim and the board, which could result in a transfer for Gomes in the coming months.

When comparing the Brazilian’s stats to those of Anderson from the opening months of the season, the Wolves star has managed to outperform him in numerous areas – that’s despite his side sitting rock bottom.

Gomes, who’s been described as “one of the best pressers in the league” by one analyst, has completed more of his attempted passes and notched more passes into the opposition box per 90 this season.

Such numbers in possession showcase that the Brazilian thrives at finding a teammate, which could benefit some of the £200m additions within the final third at Old Trafford.

He’s also won more tackles per 90 whilst making more clearances and interceptions per 90 – numbers which make him the perfect ball-winning option for the Red Devils.

Gomes’ all-round dominance is further reflected in his higher take-on success and aerial duels won per 90, which could make him an absolute steal at his current asking price.

£44m in the current climate would be an excellent piece of business, with the midfielder having the opportunity to improve further in the years ahead given he’s just 24.

There’s little denying that Anderson would be the dream addition for many fans, but it’s evident that Gomes would be a cost-effective addition for the short term.

However, that shouldn’t discredit the Wolves star’s talents, with his numbers this season certainly going under the radar, which could make him a stellar addition for Amorim.

The pitch for the second and final India-West Indies Test, which starts on October 10 in Delhi, will have patches of grass interspersed with bald areas, unlike the Ahmedabad pitch for the first Test that had an even grass covering.The Delhi pitch will have a black-soil base and is likely to favour batters, with spin playing a role as the surface dries up gradually.West Indies lost the first Test inside three days after electing to bat on one of the greenest pitches in India since the World Test Championship was launched in 2019. With four millimetres of live grass covering spread over a red-soil pitch coupled with good bounce, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj gleefully went about their job on the first morning as West Indies were all out in 44.1 overs. The visitors lasted just 45.1 overs in their second innings, suffering a bruising defeat by an innings and 140 runs.The pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, though, is understood to be more batting-friendly, coupled with a quick outfield and slightly shorter boundaries. On the way to that result, however, they ticked off at least one significant box ahead of the playoffs.Coming into Thursday’s match, GT had been the most top-heavy line-up of the tournament, with their top three scoring nearly 77% of all their runs. A verdade é que ninguém esperava uma grande atuação do time carioca. O elenco contava com desfalques importantes como Payet e João Victor, além do pouco tempo de preparo com o novo técnico interino Rafael Paiva. Mas a esperança era sair com um bom resultado para levantar o astral e levar o jogo para a decisão em São Januário – objetivo concluído.

O Fortaleza tomou conta da partida e obrigou Léo Jardim a fazer defesas milagrosas que salvaram o resultado para o Vasco. Não à toa, o goleiro ficou com a maior nota do time no Footstats (8,9). Boa atuação também do trio de defesa montada por Paiva: Rojas, Maicon e Léo deram conta do serviço de fechar a zaga vascaína.

Por outro lado, o Gigante da Colina tem sofrido muito com o ataque. A falta de eficiência no chute final fez o Vasco sofrer muito em busca dos resultados em 2024. Apesar do time finalizar muitas vezes, pouquíssimas bolas vão na direção do gol. Vegetti acabou ficando com a pior nota do elenco na partida (4,5), sendo seguido por Lucas Piton (4,7).

Tanto Rafael Paiva, quanto Ramón Diáz, não conseguiram chegar em um denominador comum em relação ao trio ofensivo. Vegetti parece ser a única unamidade, mas as pontas giram em todos jogos com Rossi, David, Rayan e Clayton. Além de Adson ainda entrar nessa briga.

O meio-campo também preocupa. Desde a perda de Paulinho e Jair, parece que nada dá certo no centro do campo. Matheus Carvalho entra bem, mas oscila. Mesma coisa com Sforza e Galdames. O Payet, que antes parecia ser peça essencial no elenco, já não é unanimidade.

A perda de Gabriel Pec, Marlon Gomes e os dois principais volantes da última temporada deixam a impressão de que o time de 2024 piorou. E de fato, os resultados nas primeiras partidas do Brasileirão são piores. Ao fim da quarta rodada do Brasileirão 2023, o Vasco ocupava a 11ª posição com 5 pontos. Hoje, o Cruz-Maltino ocupa a 17ª posição com apenas 3 pontos.

O principal culpado pelo empate com o Fortaleza? A falta de eficiência e objetividade. O principal culpado pela crise que se instaurou no Vasco? A falta de planejamento da diretoria. A busca por um novo técnico e a chegada de reforços vão definir a história do clube da Colina este ano. Por enquanto, a torcida não vê muitos motivos para sorrir.

AAP20-Oct-2025Charlie Stobo was nearly the hero for New South Wales, as Victoria held on in the last over for their first one-day win of the season.Stobo, batting at No. 8, made 47 from 41 balls in a riveting finish, after NSW had collapsed again at Junction Oval in the wake of last week’s Sheffield Shield loss.Stobo’s impressive knock, which included 19 off the penultimate over from Todd Murphy, brought them to within five runs of a comeback win, before he holed out to Murphy at mid-off off the bowling of seamer Sam Elliott with four balls left.”It was a cracking game in the end … obviously very happy with the result,” said Elliott, who is back from an Australia A white-ball tour of India. “Anyone who says they don’t get nervous is a liar. I was definitely nervous at the end there.”Luckily, we’ve played a lot of cricket together now. Being able to have that clear communication towards the end, that definitely does help.”The game had been shortened to 36 overs per side because of morning rain.The visitors were well on their way at 97 for 3 in the 21st over. Kiran Navgire, the India and Maharashtra opener, has smashed the record for fastest hundred in women’s T20s. She hit her record-breaking blitz in the Women’s T20 Trophy on Friday, hammering a 34-ball century while finishing on a 35-ball 106. It helped Maharashtra crush Punjab with eight overs to spare in Nagpur.Navgire broke Sophie Devine’s record for the previous fastest women’s T20 century, in 36 balls. That came in Wellington’s ten-wicket win over Otago in January 2021 where Devine scored 108 not out in 38 balls. An incredible strike-rate of 302.86 makes Navgire’s performance the only women’s T20 century to have a 300-plus strike-rate.It was all one-way action from Navgire’s bat. In the unbeaten 103-run second-wicket partnership, No. 3 Mukta Magre needed to contribute only six runs as Navgire plundered 14 fours and seven sixes.
